Australia Fair...or Unfair?

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Laced with conceit, the smug soul of ambition arises,

to that sole path of power and self-gratification,

and with supercilious grin sits once again upon the throne,

once again at the helm of a game that affects millions.

Sharp features, blunt tools, false charm and cold heart,

she strides the halls of justice, disregarding,

manipulating and in the shadow of secrets,

that none shall know, or realise in daylight.

Good intentions fade with complexity,

tethered by the whispers and handshakes from faceless men,

who play life as a dispensable game of win or lose,

the stakes rarely their own, converted to gain.

Where do tell, has integrity gone,

where has accountability and transparency gone,

hiding behind pages of law and self-fashioned amendments,

each passage to the endless propagation and preservation of self.

'For the people', a lost expression, a mundane consideration,

when people bleed for change, equality and justice,

and all pleas fall on deaf ears, ears attuned to the game,

the rationale of politics, ideals and action.

How fair is our way of life, what we accept as just,

when those in power think from the platform of ego, not justice,

when administration is limited by corruption and the balance of numbers,

and our lives are the residual of what first is best for power.

Very well written Tony. I look forward to reading your political comment on our new Prime Minister in time.
