Australian Terrier, Chipper, His Adventures Growing Up

Updated on November 13, 2019
I have a red bag with a binder for my husband John's medical history and Chipper loves red, when I sat the bag down and leaned it against the wall Chipper pushed it down on its side and got on top to lay down and he would do that when I left it out.

Chipper's favorite toy

Is an empty 1qt water bottle

On which he can chew on push around

And it makes noise like all his other toy

And he knows them all by name

He gives them to me one by one

That is his favorite game

Chipper's favorite color is red

I have a medical history bag that's red

Sometimes I lean it against the wall

Chipper's pushes it over to make it fall

He thinks it's his on which he can make a bed

I searched and searched until I finally found

A heart shaped pillow that is red

On which Chipper can lay down his pretty little head

Chipper's thoughts: Honey bought me a heart shaped pillow that is red on which to rest my weary head. See the smile on my face? What more can be said?

Chipper thinks my name is Honey

Chipper thinks my name is Honey

Because that is what hubby calls me

and because of what my hubby asks

He asks him, where is Honey?

Then Chipper looks for me

I asked Chipper which is your right paw?

Right paw left paw

I taught Chipper to know his right paw from his left

And you can see in the video

He learned the lesson very well

When I asked him to show me

With his right paw he pats me on the knee

Ice Cubes

I pushed the dispenser on the ice maker

Dispensing ice for my Orchids

Over the side of the cup an ice cube flew

Chipper caught it before it could hit the floor

And crunched it up and wanted more

Chasing a squirrel is so much fun

The squirrel wants to taunt and tease

He comes real close so Chipper sees

Then quickly runs for the trees

Chipper has so much fun

He has the squirrel on the run

Across the yard

Up the tree to the top of the fence

Across the fence to the roof of the shed

One day making the squirrel run

An opossum wanting to get in on the fun

Then Chipper chased him upon the fence

Chipper treed a opossum

The Battle of the bug (2nd June bug)

1st June bug

The poem is about the first June bug

It made me laugh so hard I cried

Favorite toy

A fight to the death, the battle of the bug

I took Chipper outside for his potty break

After which he chased a toad that got away

On the following potty break

Chipper looked where the frog got away

And found a June bug there

He grabbed the bug and tossed it in the air

Then caught it in his mouth

To take it into the house

He laid it upside down upon a rug

This early June bug

As Chipper mouthed it

Slapping it this way and that

The bug latched onto the bottom of his front paw

Beginning to chew and gnaw

He tried and tried to shake it lose

With one big fling onto Chipper’s tail it flew

He chased it round and round

Until he got it in his mouth

Then he chewed him up

But did not spit it out

I'll take the dog

Au fait, thanks for the comments. Actually the Coronavirus has mutated and has become even easier to contact/contract.

Blessings dear friend, hope you are staying away from others.

Animals often imagine they are one of whatever they mainly hang out with, whether that is humans, ducks, cats, or other of their own kind, whatever that is.

I like temps between 50-68 as a rule. If it's humid, even that's too hot. Yesterday, July 2nd, it was 102º for a while in the afternoon. If I never saw it that hot again I wouldn't miss it.

Hope all is well with you and that you are doing your best to be safe. I wonder if this virus will ever go away, and now they've a new swine flu . . .

Posting this to FB & AH. Blessings, dear friend. Take care . . .

Au fait, thank you for the visit, comment and post.

Chipper has his own personality, he thinks he is human and tries to talk and he grins when I ask him to.

I hope all is well with you and you are staying warm, I know it is cold out, anything below 75 degrees is cold.

Blessings to you also my dear friend.

Back to this fun poem about Chipper. I hope he is a comfort to you now. Posting this to AH & FB. Hope that will get it lots of views.

So frigid las' night (21º only) and to be similar tonight. The wind was awful. I don't think I could manage the cold we have up north anymore because I've been away for so long. Up there it's below 0. Was bad enough here las' night. Hope you are staying warm and that all is well. Blessings dear friend . . .

Ann, you are welcome. Thank you for the comment and compliment, I do appreciate you. No dogs are not color blind. I know Chipper sees in color, he has three color balls a green, blue and yellow same size, shape and texture and I can tell him to bring each one by color and he does. I know that Trixie could see in color.

      Blessings and hugs my friend

What endearing photos of Chipper! He sounds very intelligent. I've never known a dog have a favourite colour. They say they're colour-blind but obviously not; perhaps it's an Aussie trait!

Uplifting hub for a grey day. Thanks for the smiles, Shyron.

Not another toy for my little boy

      He will rip it asunder

      He strikes for the heart

      To take out the part

That use to squeak at the start

      For Chipper that's an art

      His trait from Down-under

Chipper is a clever Australian Terrier

      And a playful little warrior.

He loves his mommy named Honey

And wish her red bag was filled with money

She could spend on a new doggy-toy.

Chipper's a cutie pie, Shyron. Funny, my sister grew up calling our mom "Honey" because that's what Dad always called her. My sister thought that was her name.

Au Fait, thanks for the comments. I don't know about red being a warmer than any other color blanket.

The red bag I don't know about it having my smell on it. It only contains John's medical history with pictures and test results etc... it is not a bag that I hold close to me.

Chipper's curiosity is that of a cat.

We are enjoying the cool weather, I hope it gets better for you

      and you can relax.

      Blessings and hugs dear friend

I've read that red colored clothing and blankets keep a person warmer. Have never taken the time to experiment to see if it's true. In the case of your red bag he probably smells you on it and it gives him comfort. Years ago when I had a puppy he loved my fluffy bedroom slippers and would curl up at my feet to sleep.

Chipper certainly keeps you busy with his endless curiosity.

Hope the 3 of you are enjoying our uncharacteristically cool weather for this time of year. I'm sure it can't last much longer. Of course it's too hot for me, but at the same time it's much cooler than usual for this time of year.

Hope you are all well. Blessings dear friend . . .

Shelly (FlourishAnyway,) thank you for the compliments and comments. My life is full with this cute baby who likes to be in on everything and he is more curious than a cat. Yesterday was really wild with him wanting to go outside, he said "out, out" the way he normally does when he has to go potty, when I opened the door he ran out into the pouring rain then under the down spout than to the mud then played on the grass, then he went in search of the toad in the spot where he last saw it.

Opossum/possums are not strictly nocturnal, I think it has something to do with brightness, their pupils are always dilated. In Alabama I saw them almost daily in the late fall when the persimmons (their favorite fruit. like them too) were ripe and the weather was overcast. My favorite thing about them is they eat any kind of snakes.

Squirrels, I am glad we have trees because if they were on the ground Chipper would catch them. That is why he is on a leash, our fence is only in back and not all the way around and if he should chase something and it ran across the road, I don't know if he would find his way home and I would never be able to catch him, not even in the house, if he hides from me the leash is always sticking out like a tail, though usually he just follows me around, but there are times.

      Blessings always

Chipper is so beautiful and a smarty, too! Your life must be so full with such a cutie in your life. I wonder what that possum was doing out in the middle of the day? Usually they are nocturnal although if they are especially hungry or hurt they can be seen during the day. Maybe Chipper found their nesting spot and woke one up. Tell him the chase is more fun than catching either a squirrel or possum.

Maria, thank you for reading and commenting on my precious little Chipper. He is the most loving little dog even though he is not a lap dog and does not like to sit on anyone's lap and he does not get on the sofa or upon chairs. He shows affection by curling himself around my feet and kissing them.

Blessings and hugs my beautiful friend, Love, Shyron

      Dear Shyron.

Chipper can spot a 'honey' when he sees one - your fur baby is precious.

The videos show how much joy he brings to your world. Can you check the first one - the link needs to be changed up I think.

I thoroughly enjoyed and related to the song you chose - that dawg is staying with me / and you!

      Happy Memorial Day. Love, Maria
