Autumn Morn

Updated on March 03, 2011

Autumn Morn

There's a light coat of ice on the window,

A dusting of frost on the leaves.

Icicles drip from the rooftop,

As the sun's gently warming the eaves.

The chill in the breeze is refreshing,

Nature's perfume thrills the air.

The soft tune of birds sweetly singing

Proclaims to the world Autumn's fare.

The morn is alive with her beauty,

Sunbeams dance through the wood,

Nature preens in her glory as

She sheds her dark evening hood.

The dawn is a sweet celebration,

When Autumn visits each year,

A reflection of God's awesome beauty,

A reminder of Nature, He's near.

Thank you, dianeaugust and acaetnna! The photo was taken at the Washington DC Zoo two weeks ago while visiting my son, where the poem was inspired...Autumn in Maryland is just breath-taking!

Very nice. I loved the first few lines. It captures exactly what I'm seeing right now as I stare out my window.

Going by your poem, you seem to like Autumn or at least 'respect' it. If I were to write a poem about Autumn it would be depressing and dreary and bleak. Autumn means Winter is coming and I hate the cold!

Thank you, Beth! I love Autumn, and love Winter too! Was born and raised in sunny Fla...perhaps that has something to do with my love...no Autumn or real Winter there...lol! In the heat, you can only take so much off...in the cold, you just add layers!

A beautiful picture and a beautiful poem. I particularly like the strong imagery of, "A dusting of frost on the leaves." Autumn is one of my favorite seasons and I'm missing it in the frozen country where I currently reside. Thank you for bringing this season to life.

How very beautiful are your words written in honor of Autumn. The photo is very pretty also. I miss seeing those gorgeous Fall colors. Some trees turn colors in the South but not masses of them all about the same time as the ones up north. Thanks for this reminder of that special season of the year.

Living in a remote part of the mountains, I am very fortunate when autumn comes...your poem captures so beautifully what I have seen. I have to ask, though...is the poem truly a reflection of autumn of finding the ability to find the good in all things, including chilly mornings? Just curious.

W.K. Hayes, Interesting question. You are pretty perceptive... I work hard to seek the good in all things, especially in the past year or so since I feel like I am in the "autumn" of my life...As a native Floridian, where seasons are almost nonexistant, I love autumn...keep thinking I should feel the same about the autumn of my life...smile...I am a work in progress...Thanks for your feedback! Happy New Year!

Thank you for taking the time to translate my question...I was really half-asleep when I wrote it but I'm grateful that you understood what I was asking and I couldn't agree with you more...it does feel like autumn in my life.
