Erin's Dream

I wrote this poem for Erin M of Wisconsin when she was still in Grade School. Her mother wrote me that it fit Erin perfectly with references to her singing and sneezing all the time and the colors of the flowers, especially the Primrose. Erin would take my poetry and stories to her class and share them. Erin turns 13 this week. So, Erin, thank you for liking my writing and for sharing it. I will post a link to this poem on your FB page. I hope your friends leave you a comment and birthday wishes here at the bottom of this poem. Of course, I hope you and your mom leave a comment here too.

Robert Hewett Sr

“Butterfly Fairies dancing in the breeze”,

Sang sweet Erin trying hard not to sneeze.

“Butterfly fairies floating on soft wings,

If I could only join them”, Erin sings.

“What have we here?” Captain Monarch did sigh.

“I think we have someone who wants to fly”.

“Come, sweet Erin, I will show you our way,

So that you will have a wonderful day”.

“Sing your song sweet Erin, with arms up high,

Turn around watching soft clouds in the sky.

Close your eyes now and sing softly and slow,

Butterfly Fairies now have you in tow”.

“Hello Erin” sang out the butterflies”.

The flowers are like soft multi-colored eyes.

Butterfly Fairies on my left and right

Captain Monarch’s smile showing his delight.

Here’s a prim rose, Erin; what do you think?

Isn’t she pretty with petals soft and pink.

How about this Lilly so soft and white

Makes you feel everything will be alright.

Come Erin let’s fly to a special place,

Here’s a lilac bush you will love to taste.

Violet blossoms so full of nectar sweet

This is our most favorite morning treat”.

“Oh Erin, quick, under this boxwood hedge,

There’s a hungry Starling perched on a ledge.

Okay Erin, now keep your wings real still,

That starling wants us for his morning meal.

Look at that grasshopper ugly and brown,

Spitting tobacco and hopping around.

The Starling sees that Hopper on the ground.

We are saved but Hopper has just been found.

We never liked Mr. Hopper at all,

Always hurting the flowers large and small.

We will be kind though and speak no ill,

Mr. Hopper has saved us from a Starling kill”.

“Sing for us Erin, we love your sweet song.

We will dance around you in a big throng”.

“Butterfly Fairies dancing in the breeze”,

Sang sweet Erin, stifling another sneeze.

“Butterfly Fairies floating on soft wings,

I have joined with them for a special fling”.

Birds are singing their sweet songs with no end.

A Butterfly Fairy is a great friend.

Tasting sweet nectar from the flowers sweet.

Savoring each moment with friends so neat.

Heart memories to recall now and then.

Butterfly fairies make me laugh and grin.

Never flying in straight or level flight

Climbing and diving with the wind just right.

Each pretty blossom did call out to us.

We flit to and fro without any muss.

The Mockingbird singing her merry song

Encouraging us to fly right along.

“Ooh, what’s that mess on my face, it’s smelly.

Ginger, stop licking my face please, really”

I fell asleep while looking at a cloud.

Such an adventure, I was really wowed.

I have to tell mom about where I’ve been,

And Captain Monarch, my own special friend.

“Mom, I had a great adventure just now,

As a Butterfly Fairy, such fun, WOW.

Tasting the flowers and floating on wings”.

It was wonderful, I learned lots of things.”

“Butterfly fairies dancing on the breeze

Taught me that love is the best way to please’.
