In nineteen sixty-one, I broke a leg, in Sixty-three my back,

Was just another football player, you could say I got racked.

High school was a challenge then, I managed to get through,

I never could give in my friend, for I had much more to do.

The Vietnam War called for soldiers, was a draft just then,

My friends got their notices, looked like it would soon begin.

I decided to up and join, and the Navy was my own choice,

Uncle Sam turned me down, as I heard the old chief's voice.

It was then I went on to college, for I had made up my mind,

Seeing my best friends fall in war, memories not left behind.

Larry and Tommy Boy was for you that I had made my vow,

I'd make something of my life, to be a big success somehow.

I made it through college days and graduated right on time,

Decided to be a teacher, worked with kids, my life did rhyme.

Children in need I helped to read, following the Golden Rule,

I began to see the secret to success, learned it all in school.

I remembered Larry and Tommy Boy, friends who gave their all,

For there's nothing to compare, in my seeing that each one thrives.
