Beautiful Beautiful Butterfly

Updated on May 30, 2014

Beautiful butterfly

wings of pretty

help you fly

lovely gift divine

Lovely gift, you will be mine.

brilliant colors

reflecting His glory

amazing creature

praising Creator

flying up way too high

I cannot reach you in the sky.

Come close to me.

Rest for me

as you flutter on the breeze nearby

I want you for my own,

your beauty for my soul.

butterfly of gorgeous design

brilliant colors almost blind

Thank you for coming so close to me.

Mesmerized, I clasp you.

You are mine.

A small flutter of your wings,

you are still.

Much sadness does this bring.

Small delicate wings in shards,

Tiny body crushed apart

Safe in my hand?

How did I crush you?

Holding too tight,

I prevented you from taking flight.

Thanks, Grand, for reading. Yes, we can want something beautiful for ourselves and try to hold onto it. Sometimes, we hold too tightly and smother the very thing we delighted in.

Lovely poem. Oftentimes if we aren't mindful we can kill the essence of a creature that makes it beautiful, just as we can crush a delicate butterfly. In that sense, the world is greatly deprived by our thoughtless and cruel act.
