Before a tear hits the ground

One Step At a Time-This Is Your Life

Source

The Moments that Wait in the Future are Yours

In life we have our struggles, regardless of whom we are or where we reside. Every age brings new experiences and wisdom comes from those experiences. I don’t believe that we will ever figure things out to an uncertain degree, but eventually we are able to focus on what is truly important and who we are as well as what we believe ourselves capable of becoming. Standing up for ourselves, learning how to give, showing kindness and putting good intentions before selfishness is some of what I believe this world is lacking. Although I am no where near being perfect, I focus on progress. I hope the progress you have made in your past and will make in the future, along with any "imperfections" you possess are what makes the coming year a blessed one.

It is about progress, not perfection...

It is our choice to be happy, just as it is our choice to suffer

A million and one thoughts are racing within my head
I can't make sense of them to know just where I stand
I shiver from the chills that are being breathed upon my neck
I become paralyzed and hesitate to know who I am.

It's the control that they missed when I stood up to walk away
Only to drop to my knees and try to remember how I was taught to pray

This is not about me or wanting more for myself
That would be a waste and a prayer better spent on someone else

I don’t want more money or to have the perfect words
I don’t pray for courage as I make my way on this earth
I am not worried if I look perfect or miss a word or two.
I am okay with being wrong I'm okay with me and I'm okay with you.

I set aside a prayer to be said for someone else
One which will be pure, not spent on myself

I close my eyes to catch my breath before I look around
As I open my eyes I catch a tear before it falls and hits the ground

Always a moment too late and second past due
Never a time to go back and figure out the truth

I can't go back and change
And for the regret which I have lived
I release another tear in an effort to catch my sin.

I knew I wasn't invincible-and life would catch up to find me
I just hoped it wouldn't be so soon after I learned how to see.

I pull close a prayer which I had pushed aside to save
I don't ask for forgiveness or to have a chance to correct my lost days-

I pray that my children will always be happy and see the beauty of life
I pray that they will stay safe and never see the demons in the night

So here I am tonight-Stumbling on my words-
Trying to find the best way to say what they have not yet heard
Still I can not find the words I am not sure exist
I hope I can figure them out before it is me who is missed

The world tends to forget as they get caught up with others

It is our choice to be happy, just as it is our choice to suffer
Be who you are
Never be ashamed of your past
and for the ones who feel the need to judge, well you can kiss my ass

The people in my life who haven't been real
I feel sorry for them for not knowing the courage of learning how to feel.
Saint I am not- sins, I've committed my share
But at the end of my day I believe that God still loves and cares.

Hey Holly, well said. I'm not much for the belief in a god, but this isn't my hub, so I'll keep my words to myself with regards to that aspect. However, I never tire of your hubs, because you have a way with words to convey your message. It's always a pleasure to learn from you and about you. Thumbs up! Thank you for sharing another piece of you. :)

HC your words penetrated my soul. Well said and well written. I so like the last sentence "The people in my life who haven't been real

I feel sorry for them for not knowing the courage of learning how to feel" The older I get the more I just want to be real! Rated up and beautiful

Good words...being real is probably the most difficult choice a person ever has to make (over and over again) but it is also the most satisfying and meaningful. God wants an honest heart, not one that pretends they are what they're not. So, a person's essence is what matters to people and to God.

HC, this is beautiful.heartfelt and very emotive.

      The verse:

'I close my eyes to catch my breath

      before I look around

As I open my eyes I catch a tear

before it falls and hits the ground'

is going to play in my head for a while.. Being real and being true to oneself.. is hard but rewarding.

Hi HC, I identified with trying to find words to help your children see life catching up with them without the pain, but maybe part of the difficulty in finding the words is we both know each one has to let life meet them where they are--pain and all. Thanks for the soul video. =:)

Hi, I hope you are doing well today. This is the first time I have read any of your work but it will not be my last:) I loved the part where you caught a tear. I try my best to be a good person but sometimes I fail and it feels like I can see a tear fall from God's face and it tears me up inside to know I disappointed Him. Am I perfect? Not even close. I am not worthy to even touch Jesus' shoes, much less try to fill them. Anyway, thank you once again for such a beautiful poem. May God continue to bless your hands to write and your heart to feel. Take care.

...well I wondering does H.C. stand for Holy Cow !!!!! - lol lol - because that's how I feel when I read your flow of poetic feelings - Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!

And I love the title - wish I had thought of that one!

And what I love about your writing - it's deeply philosophical and has great personal meaning whereas a lot of poetry is vague and surreal (which is okay too) but here with these words I feel you are teaching me something ....remind myself to bring an 'apple' for you at our next class when I say (in my head) - Holy Cow!!!!

dfbishopsr - i always figured, life can certainly drag you through the mud- I have been there, many times. But I am not about to help misery and suffering out by staying down in the mud, so I always get up- shake off and keep on moving towards tomorrow...I may never get up as clean as I was before i fell, but the dirty left behind the ears, is the experience and reminder that I made it through. Thank you for your comment- I appreciate the continued support :)

HC Porter, you are a very prolific and dedicated writer and I admire that about you. You are a real presence here and your words are genuine and filled with raw emotion. These are the best kind of poems-the ones you write without being so hung up on the reader and instead focusing on yourself as the writer and saying your peace for your own sake. Very cool.
