Behind Bars - a Poem

Updated on October 23, 2012

"Behind Bars"

Here I am

too tired, weak and numb.

Iron bars stronger

than my bones;

Cold and damp --

myself shivering

Nightmares shock the sane on me.

A single beam

passing through the mossy wall

found my lost soul in solitaire.

If I hear a tune

your voice behold,

Unlock and free

a hopeful heart.

Behind bars

I'm caged no more.

A caged heart becomes a hopeful heart with a song and the sound of a loved ones voice. Beautful!

Hi xstatic! Thank you again for having you here this time. Our hearts do at certain moments feel caged because being caged there is nothing much we can do. We wait for that certain "affection" to come around, an unselfish act of mending, a gentle voice to pull us through and out of the cage we will be.

I'm loving it, having to have you around my hubs, thank you once again, xstatic. Good day to you!

Voted up. I agree we should all break the chains that bind us and be free. Wonderfully said.

No love should be kept in chains. Let love be free to love. Love to you, Gypsy Rose Lee! I'm happy :)

I love using other medium to invoke and inspire poetry. You used a very evoking photo and wrote a very beautiful and poignant poem. Well done.

Literature Fairy, it feels great to see your comment. Yes indeed, sometimes I need a subject to inspire me and stir my poetic moods; other times, it is the other way around looking for the right material to go along when words are knocking to be released in my head. Which ever comes first, I let it flow...

Cheers to a good day! ~Tess
