The Focus And Objective Of This Article About Being a Writer

Writing articles about various subjects is a great skill to have. What follows is a description of what being a writer is about and a story of how one person needed to find a way to make an income after losing their corporate job. This article basically covers freelancing but it can also apply to writing books and novels.

A Description of Some of the Typical Steps Involved in the Article Writing Process: a More Detailed Introduction

What many people may not realize is that writing articles whether it is for a website or for a private company takes lots of effort to come up with the material by researching about it, then writing the article and then proofreading the articles also takes time and effort. Proofreading is more than just checking for spelling errors. When you proofread accurately, that also means that you have to also check very carefully for any grammatical errors that may be in the articles that you have written. You have to check and see whether a period or a comma in a sentence is missing. You have got to have a very good attention to detail if you want to be a writer and especially if you want to become a great writer. Here is another important point worth mentioning about proofreading your work. The spell checker will not catch errors that are related to grammar. Make sure that the word that you use is used in the proper context as it relates to the sentence. For instance, it is easy to confuse words such as “too.” If you meant to write the word “two” but you wrote “too” instead of that, this is an example of an error in grammar. Writing articles is like a full time job. The shortest part of the process may be getting the idea for the article. Writing the article after you have done the research for it takes the longest amount of time. These words come from a person that has practiced the skill of writing for over 16 years. To summarize, the steps needed to write the articles and eventually publish them are:

5 Steps in the Article Writing Process

1. Research for article ideas

2. Write the article content

3. Check for spelling and proofread the article(s) for any possible grammar errors

4. Add images and any related videos if you can

5. Publish the article

The next section will briefly mention some of the benefits of article writing.

Benefits of Article Writing

Especially if you are currently unemployed and if you have the skill and talent you can write articles to try and earn some extra income. And by writing articles this will also keep you busy and you are less likely to think about what is being said on the news and other bad things that may be happening. If you want to write, be prepared to dedicate a lot of hours sitting behind a desk to research the material and then to write about it. There has been much time spent on researching, writing, and editing even for me these past 7.5 years and that’s something that I’m really proud of! You will then have to edit the article and some articles may take multiple edits before they are ready for submission. Even then, a written article is probably never truly finished. The term rough draft or first draft really applies here. Very rarely is your first draft the best one. There are always things that you can add to the articles and make them better so that more people would like to read them. Adding images to the article makes the article more visually attractive to readers. Adding videos to the articles in some cases may also increase the readability of the articles. And if you can attract a large enough audience the rewards for your hard work will be even better because your earning potential will be higher. There are people that do make money from their writing and so can you. You have got to have faith that you will be successful. You become what you think about all day long. Do not allow anyone to tell you that you cannot do something. Although I have not been as successful financially from my writing as I had hoped, there is no way that I will give up on this. When you lose your corporate job, then you have to try and figure out what else you can do to earn an income. HubPages is a great way for me and others to use my writing skills and work on one of my passions. It has also been a great way for others around the world to see what you have written.

A Stack of Coins On a Book

Money is one of the rewards of article writing. Passionate writers may be able to earn much of it but that depends on many factors.

Being A Writer Involves Using Creativity in Addition to Skill

Although some people write only part time, writing articles feels like a full time job. There are nights where I don’t go to bed until about 2 or 3 in the morning. I try to write as much as I can. Whatever you have to do to try and make money in this economy is all that matters. Writing good quality articles is not an easy job. But it is a job of course. That’s the way that you should look at it if you are doing writing and publishing your work. If you write on Hubpages, that is still considered to be a job. Part of being creative is being able to create work that you can do from the comfort of your own home when lots of companies are either downsizing their workforce or not hiring too many people. You have to do whatever you can to survive these challenging times because the days of having a secure job and working for the same company for 30 or 40 years is no longer possible.

Some articles can be written in a few hours and others can take a few days to write and improve on. There is no written rule that says articles have to be written and submitted in a certain amount of time unless you are working at a newspaper or magazine. But if you are a freelance person writing on your own then you can take as much time as you want to in order to write a good quality article. This is your work so make sure that you do the best job on it as possible.

Passion is the #1 Quality to Have in Order to Be a Writer

But just remember that if you do decide to dedicate time to writing articles, you will have to dedicate lots of time to your writing work. And if you want to write, make sure that you have a passion for it or at the very least you should like doing it. Writing articles is not for everyone but if you have the time, creativity and passion then you should at least try it out. If John Grisham and Tom Clancy were able to make money from their writing, so can you. You may or may not make as much money as they have done one day but there are opportunities to make an income from writing. Perseverance, dedication and hard work will make it worth it to becoming a writer either part time or full time if you are really able to make an income from it. If there is one thing that you can take from this article, I hope that you are able to remember that although being a writer takes lots of time, patience, and creativity, if you truly love to write then you should definitely follow that passion!
