Between Light and Darkness

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Eloquent though the passing of night,

its silent stir like an echo of remembered light,

darkness instils an unwritten sombre apprehension,

its emotive quiet filled with silent screaming.

For darkness is filled with the fears of formless grief,

edging closer from active imaginings,

with gnarled claws and snarling fangs,

blood-soaked horror and squirming chills.

In light we find the solace of perception,

and no matter how brash the truth,

we can grasp its allusive path as a frozen moment,

aware of all its form and potential.

But within the recesses of shadow lives all potential unknown,

shifting our presence of mind to the panic of possibility,

and the indelible fears born of self-preservation,

and the nightmares of unspoken words.

Between light and darkness lives pain unrealised,

what a mind could not bare and a body broken,

each glimpse a flash of dark dreams ill-conceived,

and led into a realm of madness unencumbered.

At the edge of sight lives the doubt,

the inner knowing of a darkness disguised,

and we who live in the light know full well,

that beyond our acceptance exists more...than we could take.
