Beyond Self is Bliss

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Beyond want, beyond result,

there is peace,

an abiding acceptance

of self and reality.

Struggle is the teacher,

the stern hand of denial

and the contention of will.

How saturated we are

with self-importance,

life the bearer of gifts and sorrow,

and we at its centre.

What we touch,

what we seek,

is not about us at all,

but in the doing,

and in the expression of love

we become defined,

not as the centre

but the experience itself.

Life is an illusion of place,

a gradient of ascension,

derived from movement,

not identity.

The more we focus on identity,

the slower our path.

Who we are then

is incidental,

what we do

and how it is expressed,

definitive.

Self-realisation is the beginning,

self-dissipation the goal.

In fleeting moments of love

we glimpse selflessness,

imbibe its blissful truth.

The clear path of freedom,

lies beyond the self.

Like a babbling brook

following a path of least resistance,

without thought,

without contention, it flows.

Translucent ripples

over the perils of jagged conflict,

soothing, smoothing obstacles,

until life is pure unrestrained expression.

Within this, a loving hand

becomes the answers to all questions,

the solver of all problems,

and in the tranquillity of surrender,

the acceptance of life.
