Beyond life and death

Shaloo Walia is an astrologer and tarot reader. She is an Art of Living teacher and also an ardent Krishna devotee and a follower of ISKCON.

Life is a balance of your karmas.

You harvest what you sow

And the balance is carried forward

To the next birth and beyond that.

A repeated cycle of birth and death

And pauses in between of Inferno and paradise.

The righteous ones enjoy the luxuries in paradise

And the sinners rot in the raging fires of inferno.

So out of fear or out of greed

We walk the double-edged sword with care

Accumulating good karmas for a reserved place in paradise

Forgetting that the cycle never ends.

Living our lives with a distorted view

For bettering next life and escaping the inferno

For this is what the saints preach

And we’re told that this is what the scriptures teach.

Do we want this endless bondage?

An eternal slavery to the karma

Who dictates our every move, every birth

With the looming fear of ending up in inferno.

Beyond the temptations of paradise and the tortures of inferno

With a promise of freedom from life and death

There is a place which beckons me with love-

“Come to me, Come to me. I’m the refuge.”

“This is thy home. This is what you seek.

Be with me here in eternal bliss.”

Promising salvation, Krsna calls in a voice sweet and tender

“Surrender to Me….Surrender to Me!”

“O human race, born to fly upward, wherefore at a little wind dost thou so fall?”

— Dante Alighieri

Very interesting view. Clearly the surrender is key.

That was very pretty, my friend. I do believe in surrendering....I love the feeling of tranquility when I have surrendered.

Thanks Eric! Only God can liberate us from the misery of life and death.

Missy Smith 13 months ago from Florida's an interesting topic. I do wonder if the sins of my ancestors have made me make choices that did not suit my purpose here, and for that I am struck with devastating karma at times? Who knows...nevertheless, these words you write are very beautiful on the subject of surrendering to it all and finding a peace in life leading up to our death, and realizing the freedom that gives us.

@Missy I have wondered the same often. I can't change what karmas I accumulated in previous births but I definitely can make sure to do good karmas in this life. But above all, surrendering to the God is the key to peace and liberation.

Nice. All mapped out to an extend. Satsang helps us, yes. Hari!

Indeed, we really do reap what we sow. I believe that you are correct in how we live that life and where those deeds lead us. However, if we are reborn, will we live a good and righteous life?

Karma is the cause of rebirths while surrendering to God and chanting His name is the door of liberation from this cycle. I'm just enchanted with this beautifully written poem Shaloo. Great job!

@aviannovice We are responsible for our actions. Every birth is a chance given by God to live a righteous life.

Thank you Rajan! Karma is the cause of bondage while surrender to the Divine is the only way of liberation.
