And The Winner Is.......
AND THE TRUMPETS SOUND
Not so fast! I need to build up to this moment by dazzling you all with an introduction and then some heartfelt words of appreciation, so get comfortable and bear with me for awhile.
A month ago I issued a challenge to the HubPages Community, as fine a collection of writers as you are likely to find. I asked them to write a short story based on four pictures that I gave them as writing prompts. No other instructions were given other than that the entry had to be 1000 words or less.
Honestly I had no idea what to expect. I can say without a doubt that the number of entries was gratifying, and the quality of writing was exceptional.
Unfortunately, one instruction I failed to give was to have each entrant give me their HP name. Thus, I have some entries with the real name of the writer but not their HP name, so I’m unable to give their link below. My apologies! If you leave your HubPages name in the comment section below I promise to provide a link to your work site on HP.
· These, then, are the writers who entered the contest:
· Kim Diaz
· Mike Sharp
· Ronald Kule
Twenty-three entries. Let the judging begin!
AND THE JUDGES WERE?
I decided to chicken out when it came to judging. I realized that I could not be objective considering the fact that there were several very close friends in the competition. So I turned the judging duties over to my wife Bev and her daughter Allora. I did, however, read each and every entry, and I reserved the right to have the final say in the voting.
As it turned out, I had absolutely no problem with the final choice made by the judges. The winning entry followed the guidelines perfectly and the author of that entry composed a short story that was exceptional and deserving of the prize.
The prize, of course, is a copy of my novel “The 12/59 Shuttle From Yesterday To Today,” and the fame that will obviously follow from having won this highly-acclaimed competition.
WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY
It is now time to announce the winner. I am proud to give you the winning entry, submitted by HubPages author Bravewarrior, also known as Sha to her friends here on HP.
You can see her entry here.
I cannot print the hub because it is a duplication when I do so. You can see the winning entry here:
Seriously, thank you to all who entered the contest. The response, with over 600 views, was incredible, and the writing only confirmed what I already knew, that I am surrounded by quality talent here on HubPages.
