Bittersweet Nostalgia

Bittersweet nostalgia
sings her lilting tune today...
as memories like ocean waves
wash over me at play.

Sings a haunting melody
that echoes deep inside,
carries me on tender wing
to yesterdays, we glide...

How bittersweet this journey
to a place of fading moon,
of sweetness tinged with sorrow
like an ancient sacred rune...

But like a tender butterfly,
that lights, then flitters on...
I linger not, to tarry long
in memory's chiffon...

Bittersweet nostalgia
has spent her tune today...
'tis time for yet a new chaffinch,
to dance a fresh ballet.

Oh my, Tender. You have a gift for such beautiful prose. Selfishly (and sheepishly), I feel so very privileged to be able to benefit from such beautiful words. Rated up and beautiful, my friend.

      Well done...

      Will

As always, truly touching and uplifting. "..of bitterness tinged with sorrow like an ancient sacred rune.." Loved this line. Greek and Roman culture and architecture is my favorite and your comparing old memories to old ruins, I think was simply genius. Loved it. -Paul

...well I simply adore the ballet - and I simply adore you - you are a lovely lovely writer and have inspired that side of me in my writing endeavors - so you see - lol lol - you have exploited the soft side of the epigramman!

Its so funny, Epi, I have always loved dance...but was always such a clumsy little lass...no dance classes for this "Grace"...It seems that the verse that flows from my pen these days is symbolic in ways I discover after the fact sometimes...such as now, when I read your comment about ballet...I remembered how I yearned as a young child to take dance lessons...smile...I guess that exploitation can be a good thing, sometimes...You are awesome!

....I've had the good fortune and pleasure to see most of the great dance and ballet companies perform live over the years ...... and I also 'dance' in my heart and mind for you and your writing too!
