Blank Stares and Sleepless Nights

Updated on July 15, 2017

Gazes of absolute

I stare with no solid thought

Emerged in what I have been dreaming

Pay no attention

To the world around as I drift

Further into an unconscious infinite timeline

Who could I be?

A paralysis has taken over me

Controlling my movements that do not seem to feel

Alive and starring

Off into the space less ceiling trying to sleep

Counting off sheep has already run its course

Now is the time

I begin to think unlimited thoughts and ideas

My mind racing as I put it on cruise control

I try to sway

My mind to think it is tired and ready to dream

But I already dreamt during the day so my mind is free

I can’t seem

To approach this restless night with a compromise

To let me have an ounce of rest so I could embrace tomorrow

Coffee then

To awaken my slumber less physique which sluggishly moves

Trying to convince myself that I am ready to face this day

Oh good

Coffee the mind of day dreamer rejoices and thanks

It’s time to focus on the reality that you do not choose to live

Blankly starring

Once again at this computer screen of career

The time has come to engage yourself in thoughtless wonder again

And here we

Go again this vicious cycle of day dreams and night thoughts

Taking control of me and I will not deny its grip around my daily reason

You win

I am not fighting but enjoying this chance to travel away

From the daily grind, the usual, the long commute and the routine

This poem is mesmerizing to me, and I am a daydreamer, too. Your poem is dreamy, and relaxing to me. My favorite part of going to sleep is when I feel myself on the brink of drifting off, but I'm still awake enough to think to myself "Wow, I'm so relaxed, like I'm floating...wow...floating...this is sooo fun, and....zzzzzz".

I'm glad that I am not alone in this mystique - the wanting to sleep but for insomnia and then convincing yourself to awake and the coffee of course.

pretty frightening sometimes though....that stage and it is often continuous...

Ryan, this is a very interesting poem about day dreamers. They always find a way out of monotony and boredom. You 've created a wonderful poem about this peculiar human trait. I enjoyed the poem.

I do a lot of hubbing at night for this reason. I can identify with this.
