Blinded by Dreams

Blinded by Dreams

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Chosen, yet disparaging our choices bleed with angst,

driven to regret we wallow in self-pity, mistakes the stuff or nightmares.

How we arrive at these tortured ends escapes our logic,

unable to perceive the treasury of choice.

Love is the seed of possibility in happiness,

yet the viper’s deadly bite in disharmony, pervading life.

Like wounded prey we stagger through days waiting for the kill,

the last agonising strike that seals our predestined fate.

Why we never see the inevitable is a mystery,

blinded by our own innocuous perceptions of dreams.

How they mesmerize us, skimming the surface of life, dazed,

like a rag doll pulled back and forth until without limb.

As the dream fades we see our folly, stark and irretrievable.

How then the play ensues is our nightmare,

the revelations so obvious, suddenly visioned free from lies.

Why must we live in shells, in buried realities?

Far from will the venom surges, its numbing pain complete,

and we drop to our knees the victims of our ineptitude.

Again, the mystery of life is crushed to bone,

and blood is tainted; love has died.
