Blue ' Ain't ' Your Color----Written In Rhyming Fashion

Updated on December 8, 2016

My name is Ruby. I write poetry, flash fiction and short stories. I am a dreamer who believes in equality for all mankind.

Feeling blue is really only a figment of my psyche's imagination

I remember so well the fun adventure's we enjoyed in our once proud United Nation

Remembering when we traveled far-wide without fear of reaching our destination

We took to the air like an eagle in glorious flight migration

Now we fear the wrath of programmed terrorists who willingly gives his life in hopes of a heavenly resurrection

Aha the cruise ships, we slept like babies, certain the Captain would steer us safely to the fun amusement awaiting on shore

Now we watch the ships pass on by, my psyche saying, " No more. "

We went to crowded parades, waving our flag's with happy inborn pride

Now we stay locked inside, afraid to venture outside

Oh how we loved to watch the Cardinals play live in St. Louis, Missouri

Now we watch the game on TV, Missing the sweet aroma of hotdogs and excited spectator flurry

We danced in nightclubs, the band taking our request's so willingly

Now we turn on the radio to dance, missing the good times and feeling sad and lonely

The days of going to live concerts or crowded movie theaters are only faded memories

The fear of mass killings keeps us housebound, adding to our pent up miseries

" Oh wait up " My psyche just interrupted me saying, " Remember your dancing boot's you reluctantly stored away

Why not retrieve them and let's start living again today? "

" I thought you were afraid ( Shane ) My psyche's name, you're the one who feared the most. "

She looked down and admitted, " I was, but I ' ain't ' having any fun, and if you don't move you'll soon be as dry as a day-old piece of toast. "

So I'm puttin' on my dancing boot's, and we're going to start living again.

" Thanks my psyche girlfriend Shane, after all you're still my closest best friend. "

Hello truthfornow. Yes it does, but we can't let evil spoil our joy even though we worry. Thank you...

Hi Shauna. There is a story behind Shane. When my mother was pregnant with me, a young girl named Shane helped her around the house. When my mother told me about her, I remarked that I loved that name and why didn't she name me Shane instead of Ruby? I also added that the name Ruby was what all the saloon women were called in the movies. My mother's only reply was, " I like the name Ruby better than Shane. " Enough said..lol..Thank you...

Shane has the right attitude, Ruby. We mustn't be so overcome with fear that we no longer allow ourselves to live. Evil wins if we let that happen. And this little girl isn't about to let evil win!

Hello Audrey. I agree with your comment. We do have much to be thankful for. We are free to live our life anyway we choose, as long as we stay within the law. So let's dance and have a ball. Thanks my friend. Hugs.....

To live in fear isn't living at all. We live in a time of terrorism it's true - but if we live in fear these terrorist's have won. I refuse! So do you. We still have so much to be grateful for and happy about. What a great message you've given us.

      Thanks my friend - thanks!

      Now I'm fightin' mad

But you made me feel glad

With your poem of happiness and cheer

Ruby, Ruby my dear gem of a friend

      We cannot live with fear

For fear would shut us in

And keep us from the joys we all have within

So let us squelch and drown our fears

Let us find our dancing boots

      And everybody jump right in

We'll find our joy and learn to live and laugh again

      *

      *

Ruby love your message so put on you boots and lets go Boot Scoot.

Mike, your poem is deep and has many layers. You say it's not finished. I hope you will finish it. " Lost in words I never penned " brings so much to the surface, yet is hidden. Oh Lordy, my poetic nature is running overtime. lol.. Thank you. When someone leaves a poem on my page I always think of DRBJ. Thank you....

Well said, Ruby. It made me think of a sign I saw the other day. It went something like this - "Start smelling the roses before you're pushing up daisies." Another job well done, my friend!

Hi Ruby - its not finished, but here goes:

      .

      A Long Way From Memphis

      .

      Beauty is not ageless

      unlike, faithfulness and grace

And we’re a long way from Memphis

      and marked with loves disgrace

      .

No more Blue Ridge Mountain fantasy,

her beauty stolen by the wind

while chased by fire to the river

lost in words I never penned

Hello Genna. I know I've been watching too much TV, all the violence all over the world has kept me from doing a lot of things I used to do. I've decided to stop worrying and live again. Let's party at EWC. Mar and Martie are already there and Mike is getting ready to read one of his soulful poems. Take care. I love it when you visit. Hugs...

Hello Mar. I'm dancing up a storm at EWC. All the old crowd is there. We're sipping special tea, the jukebox is rockin' Dusty has just ordered a stack of pancakes. Mike is trying to quieten us down so he can read a poem. Oh look, Brenda, Martie and Genna has just dropped in, now the party is in full swing. Wooah!!!!

Ruby, this is such a relevant poem in light of today's world. But living in fear is exactly what those who would embrace violence want. I say, "Screw 'em." (Sorry to be so candid.) We lose the moment we fail to embrace the dance of life. Loved the Urban tune. Hugs my friend and thank you for this great hub.

fear is created by governments to instill control. If we all begin to fear life, then we fear living. Soon life will shy away from us.

A very nice message presented in a rhyming fashion. True, Ruby, that we should not change our lifestyles due to the pressure of other outward elements. Let us enjoy life as it comes. Thank you for ending the note positively.

I totally agree, Ruby! Living in fear ain't living at all. The day we change our lifestyle out of fear of terrorists is the day they win the game. Love the way you stated this.
