Blues Sung to the Night
The house is almost empty now,
everyone's gone on home,
Blues singer calls to the night,
Guitar's strumming just right.
A sad Blues tune of days gone by,
echoing notes of past romance,
A chance meeting, the young and foolish,
As they're having their last dance.
Refrain:
A soulful song is sung to the night,
In a Blues-time rhapsody.
As lonely guitar chords are played,
In their Mid-night Melody.
Slow drum's beat and as a sax joins in,
The voice calls in its refrain,
The smoke-filled room dimmer still,
Adding to the heartfelt pain.
A nightbird mimics the high pitched sounds,
Its shrill notes pierce the dark.
A full moon shines in its bright light,
as tree's shadows leave there mark.
Refrain:
As a soulful song is sung in the night,
In a Blues-time rhapsody.
The Lonely guitar chords are played,
In their Mid-night Melody.
Sing your song Blues-maker, sing it well,
Tell of those times so long ago,
Let the wild wind carry your lyrical tune,
About the times we all do know.
Your old home place back on the creek,
Where you lived and grew up tall,
How we all missed our mamma's cooking,
By the road where wild crows called.
Refrain:
As a soulful song is sung in the night,
In a Blues-time rhapsody,
The lonely guitar chords are played,
In their Mid-Night Melody.
