The book takes place in Portland, Maine, where love is considered deadly and illegal. At the age of 18, everyone has to get “cured” for the disease, amor deliria nervosa: love. Lena, the main character, is excited to get her procedure done. She is happy that the time has finally come. But her best friend, Hana, isn’t too excited. She questions why love is considered an abomination. Lena is confused by the way Hana is acting. Does Hana not want to get her procedure done?
Lena goes in to get her procedure done, when, all of a sudden, cows are running inside the lab. It ruins her procedure. But the strange part was that she saw a boy looking at her from the observation deck, a boy she's never seen before. She wonders if he is an Invalid.
And because of that cow stampede, Lena’s procedure was postponed.
She then comes across Alex- the guy who was laughing during the cow stampede- while running with Hana.
Alex seems intrigued by Lena, and she doesn’t know why.
He tells her things that are dangerous.
Things no one should no about.
If people knew about these things, it can only mean one thing:
What will happen to them?
Read it and find out.
This book is amazing! It’s hard to explain why, it’s just very captivating and intriguing. There is nothing bad about this book, in my opinion. It’s a dystopian novel, which is even better!
Read it, you will not regret it!
The next book of this trilogy is called Pandemonium.
Check it out!
Fun Fact: There was also a pilot that was filmed around 2013. The pilot is out if you want to see it. It stars Emma Roberts. She plays the character of Lena. I watched it. I was disappointed. I felt like it could have been better. They jammed the entire first book into the pilot. Watch it and tell me what you think in the comments!
