Book Review: Snoop to Nuts by Elizabeth Lee
Sometimes the second installment to a series can be a gamble when the first one isn’t the best. Unfortunately, this installment continues it’s downward slide.
When Miss Amelia fails to win the Most Original Pecan Treat contest at the annual Agriculture Fair, everyone is in utter shock. That is except for Ethelred Towroy, Miss Amelia’s frenemy.
Ethelred can’t stop gloating and when one of the judges dies later after Miss Amelia offers another taste of her Texas Caviar, Ethelred thinks Miss Amelia killed him. As do many of the residents of Riverville.
While Miss Amelia and her granddaughter Lindy search out the true killer, Ethelred (and a few others) are anxious about an upcoming dividend check from their investment group. Of course Lindy smells a big old scam.
Even though the “murder a judge “ at some type of competition angle has been used in many crimozies, author Lee really had the chance to warn older readers about scams. It was a missed opportunity.
Again Lee has overpopulated the book with too many unnecessary characters. In fact, two of them from the first installment come back with different last names, only to be mentioned once or twice. Someone obviously wasn’t doing their editorial job.
Unfortunately, the story never gains momentum and is an obvious slow page turner when it could have had potential.
