Book Review: The Husband by Dean Koontz
Grading The Book
I would like to grade this book, in my opinion, a 9 out of 10. Having discovered the writing of Dean Koontz has been great and I can't wait to be able to read more and more of his books. He has those books that once you start reading them, you really can not stop.
The plot is thick and it doesn't start off slow and it doesn't ever slow down.
There's not a lot of characters throughout this book so, that makes it easier to follow.
The Dean of Fiction
One of your worst fears
Mitchell Rafferty and his brother Anson grew up in a strict but, his wealthy family. The" kids" Mitch and Anson moved out as soon as they were able. Mitch married the love of his life in a girl named, Holly. If you look at the two of them together you see what couples are meant to be like today.
If we were kinder to each other and if we could just slow down and listen. These are all the things that Holly and Mitch possessed. They are each others security blankets.
That horrible day......
What is the one thing that could happen to you and you would really (after it happens), step back and go what just happened? It was when Mitch found out that Holly had been abducted. There are no words that can be spoken as to how this made Mitch feel. Then to ask for so much money in a short amount of time, was just more than Mitch could handle. Holly is his entire world. She is his rock, support group, shoulder to lean on and much more. Who would have imagined that in such a short time, their lives could change. This is a must read by Dean Koontz.
The ransom amount is set for $2 million. TWO MILLION and 60 hours before the meeting time!! Knowing that in his bank account, he has about $10,000. He and his wife Holly worked very hard to build it to that amount. They felt like this was a good cushion amount for them. How in the world was he supposed to come up with that kind of money in such a short amount of time? It just seemed impossible and hopeless.
He has three sisters, one other brother and a mom and dad. Surely out of all of those people, they would let him borrow the money. He first went to see his Dad. Unfortunately, his dad wasn't even happy that he stopped by and he let Mitchell know by saying to him that he would prefer that he schedule a time instead of just dropping by and then he proceeded to tell him that he hoped that he was not there to ask for any money. He told his dad no, and left hurt and offended. So, he went to his brother, this was always his "go to" person. He has a lot of money and most family members know that he is well off but, not how well off. Also, no one in his family really knows what he does for a living.
This is a great, suspenseful novel to say the least.

Dean Koontz: Innocence- A Novel
The kidnappers are really not your stereotypical "kidnappers", as such.
They have abducted an unsuspecting victim. The wife of a Gardner. This was no regular Gardner. This Gardner was quite well off. No one had any problems with them or held any grudges against them. His immediate family is a little out of the ordinary but, what can you expect when you have two adults that are super smart and have very different views on how to raise their children.
The kidnappers turn out to be some people that Anson had done business with but, cheated them out of some money. When they really realized how much money he had cost them, they was quite unhappy.
They picked the wife of Mitch to kidnap. They know that Mitch will do anything that he can to get Holly back or do whatever is needed. Mitch is the brother of Anson who just happens to have lived a little bit different lifestyle. Everyone can tell that he has money but, no one knows for sure how he makes his money. Also, there's a lot of it. According to Anson, he tell Mitch that he is worth $2 million but, then he later takes back his story and says that he is worth way more money than that. He for some reason is willing to front Mitch the money for Holly so, that she will be released by the kidnappers.

Which is Your Favorite?
Which is your favorite Dean Koontz Novel?
I don't want to ruin the book for you so, just know that there are several surprises along the way including the fact that you have to be well over 1/2 into the book before his occupation is revealed. The way that the book is written, leads you to believe one thing but, when the actual occupation is revealed, I think that you will be in shock.
