Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is the third novel in the series which started with The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen goes through so much in this book and she is so eager to have everything be the way it was before she volunteered as a tribute in the 74th annual hunger games in place of her sister, Primrose. Her entire life has been turned upside down and she is trying desperately to get it all back and to overthrow the government which she believes to be violent and cruel. This book can be considered very gory and at times, disturbing but is very well-written. The plot has direction and no holes are left in the story. Suzanne Collins really makes you think about not only the society that Katniss lives in now, but also the society in which we now live in. It is clear in the books that her society was the result of wars between differing societies that are now in existence so it really makes one start to wonder about what our societies are capable of in the future. I highly recommend this series to young adult readers as it is very violent and perhaps too much so for younger readers.
