Breathe Deep

Introduction

Way back in the black and white days of 2006, a friend of mine was very stressed out. He was applying to various universities, trying to make honor roll, working a minimum wage job to save up for tuition, and trying to make time among all of this to be the best boyfriend he could be to his girl.

One night, after a pretty emotional talk with him about all of this, I was about to turn it in when creativity struck. Never really being hit with this wave of intellect before, I felt the need to write this down. I scrambled to find paper and a pen in the dark, tripping over various things, knocking stuff over. I didn't want to wake anyone, but the urge to lay ink was insatiable, so I pressed on.

I finally found something onto which I could scribble my creation. I felt as though some other entity was controlling my every stroke, sort of a poetic phantom. Once completed I gazed upon the page in pure amazement. I couldn't believe what my inner-wordsmith had just unleashed. I feared sharing it with anyone but who it had been written for, until now. A fellow Hubber has inspired me to share this work. I've included links to some of my favorite poems by that Hubber below.

Please let me know what you think, I'd love to have feedback on this.

Believe it or not, time flies by

Readily pressing forward until we die

Even though it seems not enough

Amounts are plenty when times are tough

Though thoughts of you ease my mind

Help to slow the flow of time

Each moment cannot be spared

Determined we are, though not prepared

Ever in this moment we are unaware

Ever in this moment...

Please breathe deep my friend, we're almost there

Final thoughts

I hope that this poem may have helped you or impacted you in some way. I know we all go through hardship in our lives, and we may lose sight of the important things. We need to keep our eyes on our goals no matter how difficult things may get.

Though it is true that some people have it much harder than others, we need to be aware that we are not the only ones who have problems to deal with, and just because someone may not be vocal about their issues doesn't mean they have a perfect life. Some people have been through so much that they just carry it very well. I have met many people who are very happy even though they have been through wars, or murder, or divorce, or various other life-changing tragedies. Always keep this in mind.

Please let me know what you think of my poem and be sure to check out the links below. They are written by a very talented poet.

As always, stay excellent!

Well first of all Steve you did a great service here to your friend - being by his side and I love your introduction here. It sets everything up.The background story is essential to your poem of course but it also makes your words more personal and intimate too when the reader is aware of their context.

You have put together a fabulous presentation here because your words are earnest, sincere and heartfelt and you can't get any better than that.

As I always say - write from the heart and the mind will always follow and you have succeeded on both counts very well here tonight.

I am not a confessional writer per se but I am a story teller and I am very pleased and humbled by your shout out and dedication here to your fellow Canadian and hub colleague and coming from a special person like you - really means a lot.

Oh by the way I picked up our ticket today and don't try to get out of it - 50/50 split if we win on our numbers.

Off now on this rainy night by the lake to watch the second half of the Led Zeppelin reunion concert from 2007 in London on dvd - sending you warm wishes from Colin and his cats and please indulge us with more of your creative writing hubs if you can - 'cos it rocks!

I think your poem is great. I give credit to those that can write a short poem with such a vivid picture in someones mind.

I cant seem to do that. I always feel if my poems are too short, they are not finished and do not relate the message.

      Everyone is different I guess.

Great work, not to mention hub.

WE need to let go and breathe deep for sure.

Crystal I will check out your hub also
