Christ Child Christmas

Updated on December 15, 2014
Source

By: Wayne Brown

Once again the Christmas Spirit is in the air

A time to remember, worship, and to share

A season of celebration and good-hearted cheer

The birthday of the Christ Child ever so dear

The warmth of candles burning in the window

The flame of the fireplace; embers aglow

The gathering of family and friends all around

The beauty of decorations adorning the town

Late evening shoppers scurry about the streets

Saying Merry Christmas to all who they meet

A chill is in the air, a familiar one we know

That hints at fulfilling our wishes for snow

Children with the eyes as big as saucers

Helping hands to cheer the souls of paupers

A brotherly love season which comes each year

Remembering the birth of a Christ Child so dear

The ringing of sleigh bells somewhere afar

Then off to the east rises a bright shining star

The world stops in awe of this glowing sphere

Remembering the birth of a Christ Child so dear

Santa Claus headed down from the ol’ North Pole

Leave him cookies, some milk and a roll

He’ll leave shiny presents all about under the tree

For all of the elated Christmas children to see

Stop for just a moment and take in the scene

The taste of the eggnog; carols sung so serene

Thank God for this world; another Christmas year

And remember the Christ Child ever so near

You have captured so much of the true spirit of Christmas…and the phrase that was God’s greatest gift to us all…the Christ Child. Your words bring back the child in us all as well. Our wide-eyed wonder and innocence that if we are lucky, we carry with us – in some way -- always.

Very nice poem! Thank you for writing and sharing. My mother-in-law and I were just talking today about how people forget the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus.
