Cave Full of Freaks
A few thousand people living in the raw,
making a game out of the shadows they saw.
They cheered, applauded and guessed which came next,
not realizing their intellegence was put to the test.
One by one they took the throne,
unaware outside was a world unknown.
They couldn't turn their heads, chained down too tight.
Nor did they ever care to mention that sterling light.
Day after day, they competed in this race,
but their bodies and minds stayed in the same place.
They enjoyed their time, and laughed lots,
but the same as yesterday; same jokes, same thoughts.
When the fire wilted down, they laid their heads to sleep,
looking forward to another night of counting sheep.
In the morning they awoke to a slamming door,
getting ready to live the day they lived before.
No questions were asked, no comments were made
all the rules provided; they obeyed.
No sympathy given for these poor souls,
they got too comfortable with the world they know.
Frozen by fear, yet unaware,
the talk of unknown gave them the scare.
One lone wolf who stood apart from the rest,
finally broke free from the chains around his chest.
Surprised to see what he had not before,
a whole new world just outside that door.
Step by step he crawled out with delight,
till he was greeted by blindness from a distant light.
He fell to his knees with such great distress,
how long has he been attached to that mess?
He looked to the trees, and the sun above
he found flowers, grass and sang the song of the dove.
Running through the field, oh so lush and green,
he couldn't wait to tell the others what he had seen.
"We've been lied to this whole damn time,
but that's alright, now I will make the rest mine."
He gathered items to show the crew;
some leaves, a bug and a flower or two.
Running back to that cave as fast as he could,
so eager to show the world of this good.
"I can't wait to see the surprise in their eyes,
when I tell them they've been living a life full of lies"
He entered the cave, big smile on his face,
preparing everyone for this great embrace.
"Guess what, out life hasn't begun,
outside there is a world with a moon and a sun."
Broken into tears from the laughs and the screams,
they told him "move you are blocking the screen."
When he insisted on, and the details were filled,
they started a riot and wanted him killed.
"Who do you think you are, you are completely wrong,
we are staying right here where we belong."
Such anger and fear, with raised fists,
he ran away from their shouts, where he wouldn't be missed.
As soon as he left, they carried back the same routine,
missing out on all those things that never made the screen.
The lone wolf never returned to that slave,
he'd rather be alone out here,
than surrounded by others in that god damn cave.
