Celebrate Fifty Years With THE VIRGINIAN

Updated on June 2, 2013

It seems like only yesterday the episodes were seen.

Cattle drove by cowboys, dusty trails and beans,

Blue horizons captured of the big Wyoming sky,

Shiloh brought excitement as an entertainment high.

Branding out a memory for decades yet to come,

Young and old took values from every single one.

The tale evolved around a handsome foreman’s trust,

And knowing not his name did not discourage us.

The mystery brought excitement waiting to be found,

The Virginian’s act of courage surely won his crown,

With cattle by the hundreds and the cowhand's brutal pride,

The magic sought for westerns was more than satisfied.

Gone, but not forgotten as the show went off the air,

Reruns reunite the fans with memories still there.

The golden anniversary of The Virginian will be,

A celebration of many friends, just like you and me.

Thanks for stopping, Jannell. The Virginian is now part of INSP's Saddle Up Saturday. It joins The Big Valley, Bonanza and another newby to the line-up The High Chaparral. I love them all.

The Virginian was one of the best TV WESTERNS every put on TV.

Next to 'The Virginian was BIG VALLEY. I never cared for Rawhide.

I'm addicted also, BLACKANDGOLDJACK. I'm so thankful to Encore Westerns for giving us a chance to view them again. I trust them to put the Virginian back in their line up soon. It just didn't seem right them taking it off when their fifty year anniversary is this year. But for now we'll have to watch the other great westerns they chose to offer us.

Yeah, I'm rather addicted to these old western series. Not as much as football, hockey, and baseball, but that's my next favorite and I used to watch "The Virginian" all the time until Encore Westerns changed the schedule and now it's "Rawhide."

Why don't they make any good western series any more? I can't even watch this stupid stuff that my teenage daughter loves.

Thank you, Debbie. His Facebook fans seem to like it. James Drury celebrated his 78th birthday today.
