Certain News to Me: A Poem

Updated on June 16, 2016

A Certain News to Me.
The weight on my head is immense.
The grip on my stomach is strong.
My eyes remain glued as always
To the screen before me.

But today is different.
No tales of heroics play.
No magic or impossible science display.
No contests take place.
There are only men and women talking.

A cloud forms above.
A rain of tears on screen.
Everything becomes colorless.
Just depressing black, white, and grey.
The gathered mourn.

Hate is the cause.
A call to evil was answered.
Nothing new, but no less wrenching.
The fool would let hate control.
He answered the devil's call.
And a price, he has paid.

But now a call to good do rise.
Kindness that would stifle hate.
The good outnumber evil.
People line with generosity.
Proof that evil will not win.

Evil's agent will be forgotten.
But the light of many will not.
Hate's call is strong.
But Light's call is stronger.

Thus conveyed, a certain news to me.

Powerful poem, my brother Victor, and very well done. Yes, Love is the greatest force, and yes, it sometimes take adversity or shadows, for us to see this Light. Sad, but true. Much Love.

We don't see enough poetry from you. You are quite good, my friend. Powerful message here....tragedies like this one happen all too often and I, for one, am tired of them.

I believe good will prevail. With progress there are almost always setbacks, and this is an enormous one. But the good in human nature will continue to prevail in spite of this obscenity.

      Beautiful poem.
