Chance Encounter or Not

Updated on November 16, 2011

Poems of my youth – Prose: Chance Encounter

I was walking down a street in the central part of town, on a beautiful bright, warm spring morning. My mood, however did not match the day, for I felt ugly, dull, cold and sullen. Though my negative emotions wore heavy upon my face, a man of relative good looks approached me and quoted his phrases of poetry to me. He said I was a very pretty woman and just couldn’t walk past and not introduce himself and tell me so.

At first I halfway listened to him because I didn’t want to be bothered, and thought him crazy. Yet his handsome face, warm smile and charming conversation opened my ears. I was smiling, laughing and blushing. I could hear the city, happy with spring.

Within only a few moments a stranger walked into my world and showed me the beauty I was part of. Then he walked away like a vision of my mind, leaving me in wonder and awe.

Sometimes all it takes is a kind smile.
