Change Is Hard

Updated on February 2, 2015

A Smarter Choice

I find it difficult to accept

Doing what is best

Isn't always the way other people see it

I have to listen to my wife

Who always has my back

Another snow storm is underway

Eight to twelve inches of snow

Poor visability

Conditions are not good

Car accidents and cars off the road

Later the temperature is going to drop

The snow might turn to freezing rain

The roads are going to become trecherous

The important thing is to be safe

Warm and comfortable

Taking care of shoveling around our home

My wife making a homemade bread

Over many years I have drilled it in my head

I make it a point to always go to work

No excuses

No matter what

I am never late

Taking pride in my work and my job

I had to call in

Where I would normally be there hours early

Managers don't care

They are concerned with running a business

The latest weather report echoing in my ears

With mixed emotions and a heavy heart

I go outside to clean off our steps and around the mailbox

On with my day and all it's beauty

I have to keep reminding myself what is really important

Mel Carriere We all spend so much time in our jobs it is hard not to feel obligated to be there every day. A sense of pride ,respect. self worth, loyalty are just some of the things going through my head. Unfortunately a lot of young adults don't feel the same way. Joy56 It is interesting hearing about other places and the weather that we each experience. Especially when our only connection to far away places might be your wonderful words. Thank you both for reading and sharing.

Oh no all that snow!!!!! We are very fortunate here.... Cold and a bit icy at times but no snow!!!!! Yep, we all go our separate ways, and then we all come together to share our experiences, hugs Brenda

Very beautiful and powerful words. I live in Southern California, where I wish it would get cold sometimes, so I can't relate to the weather but I can relate to the meaning. Great hub!

Joy56 We all have to follow our own path. It can take us in many directions until we find happiness. Each day can be an exciting, thrilling and more fulfilling than the next. As long as we keep looking and learning. The hardest times in our life can be very rewarding. I am very happy just to be alive and well. I try to bring my deepest thoughts to the surface. My mind is always searching for wonderful ways to share my life with other people so I can help and enjoy life to it's greatest potential. Thank you for reading and sharing your views. Three more inches of snow. I am so glad it's not rain.

Jodah They stayed open and other people called in also. The saddest part is they didn't even acknowledge they missed me. Already concerned with a new day and new events. I hold myself to higher standards and never go home early or call in sick. When I come to work I am ready, willing, and excited to be there. MsDora I have to admit it when I am wrong. My family would never be the same if something happened and work would still go unchanged. I think we think we believe our work is who we are. Work is what makes my life easier. Through work I am able to pay for my house and my bills and live a happy life. Dim Flaxenwick We work all our lives spending more time in our jobs than with our own families. They become a family within our family.Thank you all for your insight and support. It is hard to see outside our own views and routine. I have conditioned myself to go to work is a good and bad thing. Good that I show responsibility and pride. Bad that I would risk my health and safety for any job. Have a wonderful day.

Dream On, two things: (1) the work will be after you are gone and (2) you are primarily responsible for you. Hope find ways to enjoy a day off. Thanks for sharing your story in poetry.

No job is worth risking your life for Dream On. You did the right thing so don't feel guilty. Imagine how life would be for your wife if you risked the roads and had an accident on the way to work. I'm sure your business won't close down because you weren't there for a day.

jhamann I would never think my bosses don't care about my safety. Some how the opposite is true. When I told them I wouldn't be in they said o.k. not a word about being careful and safe. It bothers me. The weather is really nasty. I am happy to see someone else who throws themselves in their work. Thank you for reading and sharing your comment.

I have to keep reminding myself daily. It is so easy to get lost in work and other things and forget the things that really matter. Thank you for poetry. Jamie
