"Chasing Seagulls in the Sand" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"Chasing Seagulls in the Sand"

Long forgotten are the days of our star crossed romps

They all bleed n coagulate, sticking like wet photos

Moments captured in a blink

Released in a flash

Fleeting fancies; chewed up bubble gum jammed under a desk

Yet, one day remains...

Spring invited us to lunch on a beach

We feasted on each other

A light breeze was a cool rewarding sheet against our skin

The sun and clouds played peekaboo

As did we, always, eternally

But, we did find time to do away with our trivial escapades

As a young boy and girl found there way out of the shadows

They told us stories we were never to repeat

They were ours to keep

With gained trust, seagulls gathered close by

The girl and boy, each with mischief ablaze in their young furnace

Challenged; Who quicker? Who more cunning?

GO! Two darts screaming for the bullseye losing balance in wind and sand

The gulls; experts, squawked and laughed as they took to the sky, free, for a moment, just as

Our youth, lay on the sand, gasping, smiling, understanding

Yes my dear, this is as good as it gets for us

With a salty kiss the children were washed out to sea

Drowning forever in potential

No need for bells without evidence of bodies

Wreckage, lain hidden in the deep to this day

Buried treasures in the hearts of us

The two star crossed lovers; left on shore with only their ghosts

Held each other tightly and said their goodbyes

Regrets are for souls who haven't loved...

I regret to say, I'm not sure

"Autobiographically metaphorical" thanks again Robert and I can't wait for winter to be done so I can get my fix of the ocean.

Superb, Eric. A flight thru the hot summer of youth's passion, chasing waves, and chased in turn on the rocks at Newton Ave in Narragansett....damn, got to say melancholy worked well as a finisher.

What a beautiful story about young love. Innocent and sweet. It remind me of the days when I felt the world was perfect as only a child will see it. Well done!
