Chuck Palahniuk

If you like brave, daring writers, you have probably heard for Chuck Palahniuk. Even if you are not so into this type of books, you have certainly heard for 'Fight Club' movie. As you probably know, this movie is based by Chuck Palahniuk's book.

This writer with unusual name is from Pasco, Washington, and his grandfather is from Ukraine. Even though his grandfather was not considered a violent person, he end up killing his wife, and than himself. Palahniuk's father witnessed this tragical event when he was only three years old.

Like his father, Chuck Palahniuk himself didn't have a pleasant childhood. Chuck's family lived in a trailer, and his parents often left him with his grandparents. When he was fourteen, his parents divorced and his father started a new relationship, but father's new girlfriend has a very jealous ex who murdered her and Palahniuk's father. After this tragedy, his mother died from cancer. While she was dying, Chuck Palahniuk was working on his master piece - 'Fight Club'.

Although he had a hard time growing up, that didn't prevent him from being deeply human person, so he used to volunteer at homeless shelter and help at hospice.

Today, Chuck Palahniuk is one of the most talented, innovative, daring and unique living writer. His prose is row, strong catching and limitless. You can never predict what he can do next and where will he look to find his character's and reader's demons. He will shake you, and remind you that everything you are or you believe in can be changed in a moment because of reasons that you would never predict.

Choke - The Book Review

'Choke' is the novel written by Chuck Palahniuk in his own specific manner. In this book, you will meet classic anti hero - Victor Mancini. Victor is not a very fortunate person. His potential and capability of living the normal life seems to be destroyed when he was a little boy by his own mother.

His mother is a person that see conspiracy theories wherever she goes. She is so unbalanced and unrealistic, that anything can arouse her suspicion. While her son was growing up, she wasn't around him a lot, but the time they spend together, made some indelible traces on her son, Victor.

So, Victors grows up in a lot of different foster families, with a dream to become a doctor. But this dream will never come true, because his mother becomes very seek and he needs a lot of money to pay her hospital bills. This is the point when Victor found out that if someone saves your life, that person becomes connected with you, and ready to help you more in the future. So he let people saves him, in order to create this kind of bound with them, that will hopefully lead to receiving money from his 'saviors'. It sounds crazy, and it is crazy. But it's the beauty of Palahniuk's work.

Like any great Palahniuk's character, Victor has a interesting addiction. He is a sex addict, and on the meetings of the support group he finds his best friend - Denny. Denny has an addiction for masturbating, so hi takes the group meetings very seriously, but Victor goes there only to find girls with sex addiction.

Victor's day job is to be a peasant in re-enactment museum. All of his colleagues here are people with serious problems such as different types of addiction. All of them hate their job and the life itself. As I sad, Victor is not an exception. But all of this changes when he met his mother's doctor.

This women is all that he was looking for, and more than that. He hopelessly fall in love with her, and she starts to reveal him the unbelievably secrets that he can not stand.

As usually, Chuck Palahniuk gave us the most incredible scenario, and than makes us turn the pages to the end that no one can predict. If you like interesting books with unusual plot and unexpected end, 'Choke' is the book you should read. If you like the same qualities from movies, there is also a movie based by this book.
