Christmas on a Warm Winter- A Poem

Updated on December 10, 2011

Christmas is round the corner, and every single puff of cold fresh air is reminding us of the great season. For many of us, it is something craved for, with all those celebrations and so on. I just imagined how a poor man, without a proper place to live on, perhaps curling at a pavement on a cold winter night, would feel the essence of the season.May be he is starving, suffering from unhealed pains, while we might be laughing. I do not know how successful i am in highlighting the theme, but i tried to compose few lines :)

The melody of sweet December

Wafts in the air

Winds of serenity I remember

Blows from everywhere

Not that I go to church very much

Nor I admire

But I hear the chiming, The touch

Makes me aspire

I lay on my back- beneath the stars

Amidst frozen air

Shadows, Blisters and painful scars

Defending my heir

Not Santa clause-nor Christmas feast

That I care

It’s so stupid, tugging tight a piece

Wishing a warm winter I could bear

enjoyed your poem. Like you, cold makes me long for warm, but when hot gets here, I long for cool!

The excitement and joy so many feel during the Christmas holiday's, are not always shared with those that are less fortunate. To be all alone, have no warm bed to sleep in, or a nice hot meal to enjoy on Christmas eve, is just something I didn't want anyone have to go through.

Your moving poem made me feel sad.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

      Thanks Frank :)

      You are welcome Sannel :)

The theme of such a brilliant time of the year, where forgiveness, and compassion are admired and stressed , should include caring for those in real need, not merely confining our ability to express deep emotions, to produce TV shows and movies :)

Great poem. An important reminder to try to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves this time of year.

I enjoyed your poem, but I wish you had written a little more. It left me wanting to know more about this man's feelings. It was like we were given a brief glimse and then the curtains were quickly closed.
