Clinging to Shadows

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

In the valley of doubt,

I flounder,

my struggle the torture

of loss long gone.

How fragile I am,

in my stubborn hold

of past,

the hurt a shadow in memory.

I beg release,

but from the depths of me

these feelings envelope,

feelings unrelated,

fruitless.

Yet I still cling

to the fears they instil,

the experiences that haunt me,

of failures and scars

deep and profound.

I wish I could forget

those remnants,

those taunting spectres

at the edge of reason.

For I know

they are a mist,

thoughts of ill-intent

that have no substance.

It is I alone that give them flight,

into my reality,

my world.

I must save me,

from myself.
