Close In Heart - Poem

Updated on August 1, 2013
Source

On the day that you were born

I was holding steady

I had waited far too long

I was more than ready

But you took your own sweet time

Until that morning came

And then we raced to the hospital

You made it all a game

It didn’t take you long at all

To make your grand appearance

But just as quickly as you came

You made a startling disappearance

I was frightened and scared

Afraid you were gone

But when they finally put you in my arms

I Blessed God I would take you home

I thought I had motherhood all figured out

But after colic filled nights of tears

I was so filled with doubt

And felt I had aged at least a hundred years

But that seems so long ago

As I look at you today

My baby boy, grown into a man

Who lives so far away.

Though far across the globe you live

Your heart will always be

Held by your mother’s love --

You are close in heart to me.
