Clumsy Soul

Updated on June 7, 2013

Poking my head through the curtains because I like to see what's next
Writing in this coffee shop makes me feel second best
Somebody else has your light - somebody else's coffee is a little more bold
I guess that's just what happens when you have a clumsy soul

Telling you everything is alright when everything feels so wrong
Forget it the next time over - even tried to write you a song
They tell me I should forget before I get too old
But I guess they don't know what it's like to have a clumsy soul

Dancing in a memory didn't seem so bad until somebody said it was
Understanding sadness isn't so good when you've only felt it once
Having your hand in the fire has the tendency to feel too cold
Maybe the shakes are just what you get when you have a clumsy soul

Hesitant with your smiles like I don't really deserve some peace
Walking outside at night because writing this just doesn't give any release
Gravity in your grin gives my heart something to which it can mold
Everything always seems useless when you can't shake a clumsy soul

Even with wisdom, there will always be that person who reminds you how defenseless you really are. I like to think even the gods of men can be a little clumsy.. its a human thing. :)

Not a clumsy soul, just a young one. It's easy for us old folk to give advice to the younger generation, because we already made our mistakes. In Oscar Wilde's "A Portrait of Dorian Gray", he writes wisdom is nothing more than the justification of people's mistakes. It sounds messed up, but it's true.
