Come Closer I Don't Bite

Updated on July 15, 2015

Who Do We Have Here ?

I am surprised to see you

It has been years

You said you would visit me every night

Then as you got older

How quickly our minds change

I didn't compete

Even though I gave you your first thrill ride

Where you had no limits

I kept you safe and taught you so many valuable lessons

I only asked to be held in your hands or tucked under your arm close

Cherished and cared for

We can travel the world together

Fall in love

Go on endless adventures

Laugh, cry out loud or silently to ourself

Together we can dream

Making anything possible

I welcome new friendships

When you tell your family and friends all that we have done

As I waited

Days passed not even a quick hello

It would be nice

To be together on a cold winter night

At the beach laying with you out in the warm sun

Some how I was left all alone in a dark corner

As you found everybody else more interesting

I watched as you grabbed your skates to go skating every Sunday morning

Turned on the t,v.

Every night until you fell asleep

Listening to those noisy rock and roll records

Where everything in the house shook

Went on vacation after vacation

From Disney World to Niagra Falls

On a cruise to the Bahamas

The wonderful world of Las Vegas where nobody sleeps

I watched as you graduated from high school and later went off to college

All would of been a lot more difficult without my help

I remember when you filled out your first application to a job

Working and earning lots of money

You then tucked a twenty in my back pages for safe keeping

I was so happy you found me safe

Now as you ruffle through my pages

I see as you pull out that old twenty

Tossing me back on the shelf

Leaning on my side

You walk briskly out of the room

My only chance to say something

I was speechless

Cat got my tongue

How could I not tell you what you mean to me

How could I not get upset and lose my temper

Life's to short and being angry solves nothing

Holding a grudge is not good either

Remembering the good times

Where you would fall asleep with me in your arms

How could I forget my first wrinkle

When you got so excited you bent my corner

Trying to turn my page

My most favorite memory was when you printed your name

Inside my front cover and dated it

I knew then I was truely special

Trying not to cry

Nobody likes soggy wet pages

That afternoon turned into night

I dosed off to sleep

So I didn't hear you quietly come in

I thought I was dreaming as I felt my pages turn

You pressed me against your chest and squeezed me tight

I heard your voice like so many times before

This time talking to me

Telling me how long it's been

All the good times you have had

Admitting we all get busy and forget

Then there comes a time

Something very special happens

The faintest, slightest idea pops in our head

One we have forgotten for years

Well the good news is

We are moving

To a new home

The family has grown and now we are going to have our own place

I will be dusted off and placed in the front room

With a spectacular view

I can look out and see the birds early in the morning

Watch the sun diisappear in between the mountains

Feel the breeze rattle my pages on a windy day

I can see every season change

There is a huge calender on the wall

So I know what day it is

I have to listen closely

Every hour a big grandfather clock charms

From now on I will be read almost every afternoon

Read out loud to Sarah

I can't wait to see her

She will be along in five months

There is so much to say

Who would ever expect life to turn out this way

It goes to show you

Movies are good but the book is always better

Billybuc I recently came across one of my first books I ever read and I thought why not let the book tell the story. My wife wasn't sure where I was going either.I like the search and discover. Thank you for hanging in till the end. Our first book opens up a whole new world. I hope we never lose the love for life and the thrill for learning. Have a fabulous day.

So very clever. You had me guessing throughout and eager to find out who the subject was...and I was quite pleased when I found out. :)
