Come Back To Me (poem)

Updated on March 4, 2015

Come back to me

Come back to me

-

Each night I hear it calling

Past my sleep I hear its voice

Window of illusion

Mirroring some truth

-

Come back to me

As I grapple one more drink

Trying to ease unknown

-

Come back to me

As I turn toward my pillow

The moments which it heard before

-

Whispers repeating

Silence it’s cheating

Light ever fleeting

Forgotten reheating

Beckons completing

Saneness unseating

Mind numbing meeting

Come back to me

Come back to me

-

There must be some hope of escape

Each night I hear it calling

But where can I run from myself

Past my sleep I hear its voice

I want to find some conclusion

Window of illusion

But something keeps me confined

Mirroring some truth

-

Come back to me

Echoes every heartbeat

Painting every breath

-

Come back to me

Some memory

A restless sea

Once use to be

Still roaming free

My agony

My agony

-

One more drink my sharpened friend

One more drink to quench this riddle

Come back to me this one more time

Shadow of what use to be

-

Crying

Lying

Dying

Come back to me

Come back to me

That drink is very nearly like an old lover, eh? Nice work, as one can feel the pain and the constant needling in the craw...

Gosh, what agony in those words - can't help thinking of Cathy and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights...perfect for them.

I'm just stating the facts, Sha! :) Martin's limericks have brought so much laughter into my days, even when he goes and gets serious on us...a gift is bestowed :)

I so wish HP would add a like button. You don't know how many times I've wanted to like someone's comment. Linda's is one I wish I had that opportunity.

Martin, there are so many messages in this poem. I think everyone who reads it will find a connection to a time in their life when their soul was pleading to be grounded and freed of self-induced constraints.

Awesome poem, Martin. One of your best!

At the end, only regrets and disappointments.

It was not supposed to be this way.

      The mirror does not lie.

Martin, this poem is a slap of reality right on the head.

You are still the poem master.

      I did so enjoy it.

      Thanks,

      DJ.
