Onward comes the dark ........verse

Updated on January 26, 2015

In the tiniest increments in winter afternoon
night soon begins

Just a simple shadow on the undersides of
grey leafless limbs

I love the afternoon of golden tint
on linen colored snow

And patiently await the gift of winters dusk
when the wolf moon might show

A lone coyote calls it's mate on the ridgeline and awaits
an answering call

They grow hungrier in the winter night
sinse the leaving of fall

I gather an armful of firewood long since
dried by a warm sun

And stoke the fires of evening where I'll read
or write till night is done

I go to bed alone and listen for
the coyote's answering mate

It reminds me of love and a woman
and the darkness reminds me it's late

Voted up and beautiful. This was just wonderful with thoughts of warm fires in a fireplace. Enjoyed and passing this on.

Nice slice of life piece here! I enjoyed the images--but also the sense of loneliness and how you explored it here

What vivid imagery. I feel the chill and yet the warmth of the hearth. Thank you.
