Introduction

We are all endowed by our Creator with a brain and some common sense. Recently, I must admit I came across a few events that make me question the wisdom of that statement. How is it that some people can grow up in our society, gone through our public education system and yet lack the basics of common sense?

- Jul. 2016

Some Things are Self Evident...

The most basic items to survive in our modern world is knowledge. Some things are so obvious, they don't need to be taught. For example, we know to cross the street on a green light, to look both ways before we cross. We know to not play with fire. We know to watch where we are going at all times.

Some Things are Taught...

Due to our vast system of education and advancement in science and medicine, we know the following.

  • Smoking causes lung cancer.
  • Sun exposure leads to skin cancer, use sun block when outdoors.
  • Use seat belt when riding in an automobile.

Other Common Sense...

Our parents have prepared us well for the real world. They taught us about the value of money and how to earn it and how to save and not waste.

  • Don't borrow from relatives
  • Get a good education
  • Save for your retirement
  • donate to the poor
  • help people in need

What Happened?

Technology is a wonderful thing. It provide us with conveniences and time saving shortcuts. Who does not like a GPS when driving. It gets you to where you need to go painlessly. However, as good as the technology is, it is not fool proof. You need to understand that all technology is based on a set of rules and as such, it is prone to error.

In a recent story, a man was following the instructions on his rental car's GPS and ended up in a ditch when he made a bad turn. Luckily, he was not injured. But, where was his common sense? How can a driver blindly follow instructions from a machine that is dependent on satellites thousands of miles up?

Another story that is just too funny to watch. A video showing a woman texting on her phone while walking into a water fountain.

Recent Pokeman Go craze have kids running into streets getting into accidents chasing an imagery figure on their smart phone.

In a recent terrorist shooting incident, the people in the streets were holding their phone not knowing what to do. Some were checking their apps seeking direction... Where is their born instinct of self preservation?

The Election of 2016

This election cycle has produced two of the mostly flawed candidates in the names of Clinton and Trump.

How in the world out of 320 million Americans, that we end up with these two individuals to represent us?

Hillary Clinton - A person with a long resume but very little accomplishments. A person who was investigated by the FBI for miss handling of secret documents. Her conduct as Secretary of State has created a mess around the world, from Libya to Iran to Iraq to Russia to North Korea, there is no good story. Her long history of scandals going back to the 1990s. Over 60% of the public finds her untrustworthy. She is running because she is a women. Hah?

Donald Trump - A self centered egotist businessman and reality TV star. He got the support of people who were fed up with the Washington elites. His claim of being the outsider along with his politically incorrect speech captured the imagination of Republican voters. He once said that he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave. and his supporters will still vote for him. Hah?

AGW Climate Change - Science or Fiction?

Experts has been telling us since the 1990's that we humans are causing our climate to warm.

Dr. Michael Mann proposed the hockey stick theory in 1998 and the scientific community embraced it without asking the proof of data.

As it turned out, he manipulated the data to fit his agenda.

Elon Musk - TESLA and Solar City

Recently, Elon Musk announced he is merging two of his companies, Tesla, the electric car company and Solar City, the solar panel and battery backup company. The two companies had never made a profit and relied mostly on government subsidies for the green initiatives. The stock prices have gone through the roof... for no good reason. The recent announcement by TESLA of pre-orders of its Model 3 is impressive. However, they have missed production targets on their vehicles. He is getting rich gambling with our tax dollars.

Summary

It seems to me that "common sense" is no longer common or makes any sense. The world seems upside down and no one is speaking up. The emperor have no cloth and we are all silent.

I guess I am the lone person with common sense. Who is with me?

Common sense is dead and buried. This afternoon, not of my own volition, I watched some of the coverage of the Dem. Convention and I was appalled at the stupidity. People with common sense are outnumbered and that is the problem.
