Control (poem)

Updated on December 27, 2011

Trapped beneath my heavy heart,

I feel the tug of created guilt

crafty manipulation

always pulls me under

ties me to my home

like a noose

to seal a fate

so seaped into you.

Words of promise

create a prison

box me into a life

of waiting

and hoping.

A destiny determined

by random phone calls

chance occurrences

stolen moments,

gives you the upper hand.

Illusions of equality

thoughts of malicious intent

provide enough justification

to continue status quo,

what happens from here

none of your concern.

Getting close

is but a game

you pull the strings

push me away

to get back on top.

This game

has been a farce,

you failed to notice

I stopped playing so very long ago.

Tricks and scams

fail to hide

a weakness

exposed at every turn.

Chains on me

will not protect you.

See me again

when you can come as you are

clear of mind

body bound by love.

Separate and joined

we will be

united by affection

trust replaces control,

allowing us both to be free.
