"Conviction" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"Conviction"

An imposing figure

Imposed with will

Proving; you don't need proof

To believe

To inspire

To walk through the flames and not feel the fire

Of the beady eyed demons cold black stare

Peering out searching for souls

Ownership of, their only goal

I; fighting back

With impregnable ideals flaunted in their face

Invulnerable

A force in a field enjoying the flowers

Life is hard work that pays by the hour

So use them wisely

Try not to wait for your pension

All years are golden

Walk with purpose in times where there is no evidence of such

For you are ruler

The owner, in soul possession

No body owns any body

Your mind is your own business

Don't mind mine

I keep a loose grip on it so it tends to get out of hand

Slipping through the cracks

Free

Falling into place

Never losing face

I hit the ground running

The demons hot on my trail

Tracking me down

They corner me

I do believe they've caught themselves a prize

A man with conviction burning in his eyes

A novelty with a novel idea

Destined to bleed for his beliefs

Conviction; the unmerciful knife

Carried and tucked under his arm

Ready to defend himself with it

Or die by the very blade that he wields

You certainly have conviction Eric, that's more than evident in your poetry. Never stop.

      Eric,

Your poem moves well in the motionless aspects of "Conviction."

I especially embrace the last line: "..Carried and tucked ... "blade that he wields..." Very precise imagery going on there!

Thank you Christine, I had the idea of conviction being a double edged sword, you can fend off with it or die from the sacrificial blade.
