Coastal Path Haiku

Updated on November 26, 2015

The Cornwall Coastal path stretches for over 250 miles and is an area of astounding natural beauty. It has some of the wildest and most dramatic scenery along the entire English coastline. Storm-lashed Atlantic cliffs; sheltered river estuaries; lighthouses; wild flowers and birds; evidence of a fascinating mining heritage; the exhilaration of standing at Land's End; endless views of romantic creeks and breath-taking cliffs; stony beaches; white sandy beaches; turquoise sea; grey beaches (surprisingly attractive); quaint fishing villages; harbours; sheltered tree-lined creeks; a sense of remoteness and wildness; different types of rock from Serpentine (dark green rock with red and white veins) to granite and schist; and so much more to experience.

I was last there six months ago and was inspired to express some of my experience in Holiday Haiku. This time, as soon as I set off on the wonderful coastal path, I was inspired again. I hope you enjoy them and also consider visiting this very special part of the world.

capturing spirit

i feel it taking me in

the pull of nature

painted just for me

impressionistic pastel

the trees on the path

bursting with colour

on elevated canvass

spring awakening

forever moving

aligning me with nature

the sounds of the sea

waiting to open

patience while the season shifts

helicopter leaves

just like confetti

adorning the coastal path

makes me feel special

sensitive pattern

gorgeous remnants from the whole

a gallery beach

cornwall coastal path

he’s stopping to say hello

the friendly rabbit

our own private beach

only wings can get you there

seagull paradise

constant reminder

echoing through the grey mist

sounding the foghorn

Your haiku's are artistically written! The combination of poetry and photography helped me appreciate the beauty of the coast. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Christopher, thank you. I appreciate your coments. One of my most favourite places is Llangennith. I used to visit regularly. Do you know it? Certainly worthy of some instinctive haiku. I'll take a pen on my next visit. Go well. Russ

Russ, well done. Your haikus affect me, and the photos enhance the pleasure.

Though I have never been to Cornwall, my ancestors were all Welsh, I visited there breifly while in college, and these poems and images somehow speak to me.

Thank you, you always put a smile on my face. Yes, I believe you would love the Cornish Coast and I have no doubt that the inspirations would jump at you. I hope you are still maintaining the habit of a haiku every morning. Go well my friend. Russ

Russ...Beautiful phrasing matched perfectly with inspiring pictures...Isn't it interesting how nature just seems to pull the words out of you...

I should like to walk the whole 250 miles with camera and notebook...I would have inspirations for a thousand haiku...I love and miss the ocean, the eternal sounds and rhythms...

Your lovely haiku has me pining for the sea...Perhaps Mr Rabbit can lead me to the shore...Sala Kahle, my friend...Larry

Thanks Loria, many of the photos were of the actual places that inspired the haiku. Russ
