Corporal Jones

Updated on May 26, 2013

Cpl. Jones was a young man of no FEAR.

He stared death in the face knowing at any second it was NEAR.

We fought together on the BATTLEFIELD.

Witnessed bloodshed, saw men, women, and children KILLED.

Brothers in combat a year or so had gone BY.

Everyday was a mystery, never knowing if we would live or DIE.

Serving his country had always been his greatest DESIRE.

It was no surprise to see courage in his eyes, as we were ambushed by enemy FIRE.

A band of brothers, we fought like wild dogs that's what the mission DEMANDED.

While locked in battle about 10 feet away a small olive green explosive LANDED.

Without as much of a blink Cpl Jones' decision was MADE.

Running as fast as he could, like any Marine would, he hurled himself on top of the GRENADE!

Cpl. Jones was only 21 when he so valiantly gave his LIFE.

I cry all these years later because he never made it home to be reunited his WIFE.

Cpl. Jones will forever be a hero, he gave all he could GIVE.

Bless his soul, it's because of him I LIVE.

      Hi ziyena,

Thanks for stopping by. Cpl Jones, did not exist as an actual person. He's a character I created for the men and women we lost in combat. It's my form of a tribute to them.

Yes. I have another one of my all time lists coming out. I have a poem I'm working on as well. They both should be published by tomorrow, if not tonight.

      MOS,

Aw... you're so sweet, I really appreciate that and I have to say, I'm so very impressed with the HP community. I hope it's been as good to you as it's been to me. I wouldn't know what to do if you didn't keep making hubs! I don't come over out of obligation, but for sheer pleasure :D

A new hub? I published one almost 24 hours ago... I believe... lol. I'm lost, is it Sunday yet? Wow... it's been a looong weekend!

You're due for a new hub too, aren't you? You're good for pounding these puppies out :D

      Hi Cat,

Thank you as always. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. You're so kind to us Hubbers, you make it worth continuing. I'm ready for a new hub from you, young lady.

      Man of Strength,

Wow... this is beautiful; if I'd have read this on Memorial Day, with the mood I was in... I'd have been in tears for sure, I'm close enough now! :D

I know 'war' is yet another controversial topic and frankly, I wish it didn't exist... but for all you soldiers do for the rest of us, I will forever be grateful. You're all truly heroes!

Voted up and a bunch more, Pinning to my Heroes board and Sharing!

Oh... by the way, I did a hub 'In Honor of Our Soldiers ~ I Thank You' on or around Memorial Day myself, because I think you guys and gals are worth at least one hub!

Thanks for reading. As I much as I love sports, athletes are not our heroes. These brave men and women are.
