Corporal Jones
Cpl. Jones was a young man of no FEAR.
He stared death in the face knowing at any second it was NEAR.
We fought together on the BATTLEFIELD.
Witnessed bloodshed, saw men, women, and children KILLED.
Brothers in combat a year or so had gone BY.
Everyday was a mystery, never knowing if we would live or DIE.
Serving his country had always been his greatest DESIRE.
It was no surprise to see courage in his eyes, as we were ambushed by enemy FIRE.
A band of brothers, we fought like wild dogs that's what the mission DEMANDED.
While locked in battle about 10 feet away a small olive green explosive LANDED.
Without as much of a blink Cpl Jones' decision was MADE.
Running as fast as he could, like any Marine would, he hurled himself on top of the GRENADE!
Cpl. Jones was only 21 when he so valiantly gave his LIFE.
I cry all these years later because he never made it home to be reunited his WIFE.
Cpl. Jones will forever be a hero, he gave all he could GIVE.
Bless his soul, it's because of him I LIVE.
