Cover letter sample for applying for a job as PC and IT Support Officer

Updated on July 16, 2011

Here is a sample cover letter for a job application as a PC or IT support officer. It is a response to an advert in a magazine. It can be modified for different careers or areas of work. Simply substitute the IT and PC support for something else. You may also want to change the ‘duties’ as well as the places where you may have trained and worked.

Dear Mrs Jones,

I am writing to apply for the job of IT & PC support officer which was advertised recently in the Computer Times IT Magazine.

For the last six years I have worked in the PC support department at General Tech IT services. Because the company is now being moved to another part of the country, I will be made redundant in a month’s time.

My current job involves various computer support related duties which include technical support in person and by phone. In addition, I also:

- Order pc accessories, parts and consumables
- Deal with pc queries from customers
- Handle incoming phone calls
- Handle outgoing and incoming mail

Before joining General Tech IT services as pc support technician, I was a trainee with Personal Computer Support Company where I completed my qualifications in PC support and also gained a diploma in Business Administration. I also have experience in a number of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, Project, Access and PowerPoint.

I have always enjoyed teamwork and working with people and I believe that my previous experience will allow me to work well as part of a team and effectively present the company's services and products to your customers.

I am available for interview at any time and I am ready to start work immediately. The enclosed CV has two addresses of persons whom you may contact for references. This includes my previous employer and my training supervisor.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Sincerely

Joe Richards

An example would be: If I have not yet heard back from you by next week, I will call you to argrnae a time when we can meet. By doing so, you are giving the employer an opportunity to respond, but also putting them on notice that you will be taking an action if they do not. Always keep things moving forward.

Brian, you mention that the cover letetr should mention the next action that I will take. Can you be more specific on this? Should I say something like I will follow up with you in a week to see how the process is going. or less specific, like I will follow up with you soon I am assuming that an employer may not like the idea of being put under a time line, so soon may be best?
