Daily Writing Tips

Updated on July 11, 2014

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."Calvin Coolidge

Look for some inspiration

A lot of people find it difficult to be creative and write the content. Writers block. This happens to all of us at some point so it is important to seek inspiration. This can take many forms; from taking a walk, to listening to music or even reading an autobiography. There are no rules to where inspiration comes from but it is essential you are willing to look for it.

If you do get stuck. Try this;

Go for a walk and look around you. Try and pick out individual items and think about what these items remind you of. Such as an old fashioned car may remind you off your uncle which, in turn, may remind you of the way he laughed. This trail of thought may lead to an idea or an inspiration for an article.

Moreover, remind yourself why you are writing in the first place. Remember how passionate you are about it. As much as possible, you have to motivate yourself because everything is up to you.

Make a schedule for writing

It is good practice to make a schedule, everything that you have to do so that you will still be organized despite having a hectic day ahead. Of course, you have to follow your schedule carefully. It takes so much discipline on your part, but you will be much more productive. Creating a timetable of your tasks help you stay focused and stops you from being distracted.

Staying focused is key to creating consistent and great content.

Get rid of electronic devices

It is a fact that because of electronic devices, people are distracted from doing the things that they need to do. You have to be disciplined enough and temporarily turn off these devices. When it is time to write articles, always do your best to make sure that you stop yourself from getting tempted. Anyway, think of it this way. If you are well behaved and keep your hands of you phone and IPad while you are writing, you will finish your work earlier! This will give you plenty of time to Facebook and Tweet!

"When I sit at my table to write, I never know what it's going to be until I'm under way. I trust in inspiration, which sometimes comes and sometimes doesn't. But I don't sit back waiting for it. I work every day."Alberto Moravia

Never stop learning

Regardless of you chosen topic you have to keep learning. Knowledge is power. It is of vital importance that you keep reading and keep up to date on other blogs and website regarding your area of expertise. This should be something you do automatically to be honest. Obviously if you have a passion for photography, and you have a blog on the subject, then you will be reading articles and product reviews regarding cameras and techniques simply because you are interested. Hence you are expanding your knowledge and expert knowledge. Automatic, like I said. However it does not hurt to be reminded to keep in touch with your passion.

Set a minimum word count

Setting yourself a target helps a lot. Half of all battles is a morale issue and so if you can see you are approaching your target word count quickly, you will get a boost and improve your writing. Think of it as a competition or a employee of the month - it will give you the fire in your belly which you need to get the words on paper! Setting a minimum target word count can give you a welcome boost.

Write on a clean and enticing environment

Your environment greatly affects the kind of writing that you do. In order for you to be able to write high quality articles, it is best that you reserve a space at home, clean it and create comfortable space. Through this, you will feel more relaxed and create quality content. Working in a messy and cluttered space is unlikely to calm you and bring out the writer inside you - unless you like mess of course!

Take a break

Many people think they do not have time to take a break. They think they will do less work if they take a 20 minute breather. In fact taking a break is the best thing you can do. Working too much will simply slow down your productivity and decrease the quality of your work. Taking a break will refresh you head and clear your thoughts a bit, so when you go back to your PC you are fresh and ready to start again. This means you will write a much more coherent and interesting article than that of a tired version of yourself.

Final Thoughts...

Having a few tricks under your sleeve is important to increase your article quality and productivity. There are plenty more things you can do to improve so have a little Google period and see what else you can do boost your daily writing tips list.
