Daniels mountain incident ............ Poem

Updated on June 04, 2015

'Your father and his father before him'
she softly sang
as the baby slept in the shadows of pine
Together they dozed in summers
satiating breeze
forgotten by place and time

Long before they came and stole
you away
and now she sings never more
Look there in strangers arms running down the side
of Daniels hill
by the water's peaceful shore

The Indian's never brought you back
and living without her child
took a heavy toll
Yet she remembered you wrapped in linens
to this day
that was your mothers roll

We buried her there on Daniel's mountain
an empty grave there
by her side
No name upon the granite stone
do I see you out there yet
or is it stubborn pride

When one day a strong young man returned
up this side of Daniels mountain
seeking answers as he passed
He wore the buckskins of a warrior
striking and tall
as he asked

I pointed to your grave and cried
it's too late it seems
for this woman your loving mother
Here you stand here before me a stranger
my new found love
am I your loving brother?
