Darn Those Tomatoes

Updated on March 18, 2014

They Look So Good

What happened ?

Out of sight out of mind

A few days have passed and pushed in back

Sitting in the refrigerator the whole time

Remember when we bought them

I could taste their sweet juice on my lips

Ripe but not over ripe

My wife likes the ones that come on a vine

When I was young my mother and I ate lettuce and tomato sandwiches

With just mayonnaise salt and pepper

I can still hear the crunch as my teeth bit into the lettuce

Seeing my fingers pressing through the bread

Trying to keep my sandwich together

Eating the last bite

Later on in life my wife makes grill cheese and tomato sandwiches

That are so good

Sometimes I am looking for something to eat

It has to be quick with no effort

The lazy mans snack

Taking a tomato and cutting in half

Adding a little salt

Hits the spot

Then again I love tomatoes in a salad

In the summer my wife would cut up a cucumber and tomato into a salad

Make them into cute0 little squares add salt, pepper, olive oil and basil

I love tomatoes

The only thing I have to remember

Is to eat them or they go rotten

Then those beautiful tomatoes turn moldy

Has this ever happened to you ?

Now I put a sign on the refrigerator door

Tomatoes waiting to be eaten

With a picture I cut of the paper

Of the most delicious tomatoes

See if that works

Have a great day

Where off to put our tomatoes to good use

Honey grab two tomatoes

We are going to have a tomato fight

Then off to the showers and on with our day

DREAM ON.. Loved the poem as I also love yourself a favor and never put them in the fridge...they will stay sweeter that way and they will be starring you in the face 24-7 if you place them on the sill right above the sink.. I learned that trick from my G-M...thanks for the share, I'm off for a tomato/Mayo sandwich, your words (gave me a craving )

Gypsy Rose Lee You might have to add something to your soil or they might need to be in a different location. Some people have wonderful success growing plants out of a bucket. I have a small garden in my back yard. The secret is not to give up. Certain vegetables might grow better in your area. Check with a greenhouse or nursery in your town. Thank you so very much for reading and commenting.

I love tomatoes and I agree if you forget about them what a smelly disaster. Tried growing some in our garden last year but they got black and died on the vine. Now we just buy our tomatoes. How do you grow yours?

      Hi DREAM ON.

You've hit a home run! Growing your own tomatoes , one of the best- cherry tomatoes. Mmm, fresh bread, home made sausage and a bit salty tomato - traditional breakfast for hard working construction man . (If they are not organic, I'm not eating them…)

      Up and interesting.

Jodah Every year we have a small garden and the best thing I love is growing our own tomatoes. My favorite is our cherry tomatoes that are bite size and when they are ripe they squirt when you pop them in your mouth. Thank you for sharing and making each day a new wonder.

Jodah Your recipe for the tomato sauce sounds delicious. My wife also makes a homemade spaghetti sauce. Hers has crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, a little olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, parsley and a hint of crushed red pepper. I love hearing other peoples tomato ideas.Thank you so much for reading and sharing.
