Days of Sadness

Updated on November 6, 2012

Oh, Lord I look toward you

To make me understand

After these days of storm and darkness

And the gray day that we had to follow

Such sadness has overcome me

As I followed through and prayed

For all of those who suffered

And prayed for all the homeless

Oh, Lord now that it’s over

Now that I know things will get better

Now that the sun has finally shown here

Why this incredible sadness do I feel?

Nothing I can think of

All accounted for and well

Just something in the sky

I guess it’s those falling leaves waving goodbye

They keep falling in the wind like tears

All of the migratory birds have already flown

The city’s pigeons and the ducks upon the canals

Look so dismal and alone

And still like a curtain that has fallen

This incredible sadness has come

Perhaps it’s because winter isn’t far behind

Perhaps it’s because the holidays make me melancholy

Oh, Lord please help me to understand

I have so many blessings while others have so few

I should take each day in gladness

Yet, I’ve been met with sadness

Today the sun shone so bright

I know Lord you’re saying it will be alright

So I just have to shake this cloak of sadness

And make my peace with gladness

Perhaps it’s because I’m so far from home

And have lots of paths still to roam

Perhaps it’s the longing

That making me feel so down

So I will say my prayers

And praise you for your greatness

Let you guide me through this Lord

And go out to greet the sun in the sky above

Thank you Lord for being there when it was needed

Thank you Lord for your compassion and understanding

Most of all thank you for the sunny days

Which will guide us through all the rest of this

This takes my breath way. I think Mr. Archer expressed my appreciation so well...

"A prayer, a lament, a poem - it is all three at once, and so much more. Blessings be on you, and prayers are on their way to you."

      God bless. :-)

He never leaves us does He? We serve an awesome God indeed. In days of sadness, His hand is in ours and He shows His precious love. Your poem and the accompanying photos are just lovely. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

So glad you enjoyed this Eddy. The Lord is the one who will see us through all the sad times. God bless.

Glad you enjoyed this Lady Summerset. Your grandson sounds like one smart little boy. I agree at least the US has the same president who is a family man and who now knows what the people want and need. Perhaps this will turn things for the better.

Yes, Blossom it is so true. When we turn to the Lord things can only get better. Thanks for the vote.

Oh, yes fpherj faith is what can get us up and on our way through life. With faith we can do so much.

Thank you so much for your comment Leslie. You are right I stick to my faith and it always pulls me through. Just these past days of the storm and the worry about people and our own gray and rainy weather has tired me out.

Aww thank you so much for your comment ahorseback. That certainly lifted me up. Hugs.

Thank you for your comment ALUR. It is true as each day passes with faith and with prayer things get so much better.

though there is an element of deep sadness, the best form of relief is to write and honor God. It matters not what HIS/HER majesty means to you so long as you know that humility opens up the heart. Thanks for sharing and mourning with grace...

Oh, Gypsy...i don't like to think of you feeling down - and then - feeling guilty for doing so!

Your faith lifts you up - it defines the way you live - and i deeply respect you for that, my friend!

You are kind, and intelligent, and compassionate - you feel deeply and - that is always difficult..

AND - you write incredible poetry to express it!

      Thank you

You have explained your feelings so well in your poem. It reminded me of King David and how he poured out his heart before the Lord. Voted up.

      Greetings Gypsy Rose Lee,

The nation "EXHALED" as the drama of CNN's early reporting was dire for President Obama. I personally know that people across this great Nation was in prayer for our President. Even my 8-year old grandson understood the importance and the weight of the ensuing election. For a candidate to alienate 70 to 80 percent of the population in and of itself is mind-boggling. A tough love approach without viable transition was absolutely ludicrous while the top 20% would go on with life as normal.

Enjoyed your hub and I also *wink* *wink* at our naysayer!

Gypsy, we all have those days of sadness, but as a writer you have the ability to channel your thoughts and feelings into words, sometime we even create beautiful work, such as this poem. I hope your heart is much lighter my friend, best wishes to you.

Gypsy my friend a very beautiful poem indeed. I can understand your sentiments when you say about things being okay but still we feel sad. I think sometimes just a scene, a piece of music or a word can often trigger off memories and hopes and dreams and so change our moods that almost seem inexplicable. A beautiful piece of work my friend!

Really a beautiful poem/prayer. Everything is temporary. We just have to understand that and go with the flow. If all we ever had in life were "ups", we'd get to the point of not appreciating the gifts we'd been given. Great Job!
