Debating the Benefits of Change

Updated on April 2, 2017

Good afternoon everyone I do hope this finds you are well. May your day be filled with many blessings and much love.

To me and to many the Fireside has always been a place to come, relax, exchange ideas and especially a place to leave a comment. It always has been and hopefully always will be a place people want to stop and just be people who share a common interest.

After writing yesterday for the first time in a long while in an attempt to catch everyone up on life I was shocked to receive notification my writing was too spammy, too much like a personal blog that I as well as given an invitation to attend a class on creating a stellar hub. Call me a redneck but where I come from sharing with others is a way of life. It is all about community.

To stay within the confines which someone else as lain down as their self imposed rules I have a few things to say. I will not be sharing a step by step method of how to bake Gramma's favourite cookie recipe, let alone the most elaborate method of bathing my dog. For what to make everyone uniform in their methods of writing. My question is what sort of writing does that create, least the fact you eliminate all creativity and personal involvement from writing.

First shall we look at the term writer...

*** a person who writes books, stories, or articles as a job or regular occupation."the distinguished travel writer Freya Stark"synonyms: author , wordsmith , man/woman of letters, penman ;

If one were to conform then one has lost the ability to share from the heart. They have lost the ability to engage and interact with the reader. They have lost the ability to share thoughts derived from inner most feelings. They have lost the art of connection with others.

According to the new rules here I am to be pigeon holed into my slot and stay within the confines of a totally grey area of writing I certainly struggle with. It appears as though all of the above have been set aside to follow what someone delegates.

I am all with the idea of attempting to grow in our writing skills, to create informative articles which teach and enlighten. What I am against is closing the door to personal feelings and sharing what is taking place in the real world. Apparently a real person has flagged a recent post as being far to personal. Heaven forbid if someone should write something which would actually touch others you care about. Even worse that it may offend because I happened to mention faith and pass along blessings. Then that dreaded hug I have for all people appears a threat to what one person or a few select as invading their personal space. No I am to stay in that little cramped place I have been put and not say anything of love, caring or having genuine interest in what is taking place all around us.

Remember When

We knew the names of each others children, our pets and the kind and colour of the vehicle we drove. In the old days this was a place to come and share, today is so much different. There was a small income to be made should you write for that reason. It now appears that has been taken away and replaced with wanting only articles that will generate income of advertising. I might add and who is that for? Not the writer who lives in that small slot they have been placed.

I do agree with creating quality articles that should be informative but come now are we to become like the crowded waiting room office where each person has their noses stuck in their phones. Are we so afraid to speak out to another, say hello or simply smile.

If people have become so isolated they care not to read anything other than their own personal interests. Even worse getting more likes than the next person in that little imposed box.

Me well I will stick to what I know best and that is caring about my fellow writers. Many of you I have met here, often we have began a personal friendship which has expanded to many email exchanges. The real benefit and blessings have come from our phone calls and yes often meeting you personally. To me that is what writing is all about....

I have been around a long while here. At one time I pulled down my site and 450 hubs I had published. Today I have managed a collection of 199 more hubs. Should they not be wanted here then please let me know. Rednecks are known to make very drastic changes when needed.

On a technical just so I can say there is something here for everyone, well please remember to use water when bathing the dog. Oh yes be sure to bake the cookies. As always I attached love and as many hugs as you care to accept....

Fair warning this article like the old TV Show "Mission Impossible" may self destruct rather quickly. For that I am truly regretful...

I am sorry all this happened to you, Rolly. I don't see any spam in your writings, but HP has changed markedly, as you say.

Rolly, I can't imagine someone reporting your last article as spammy. I just read it about an hour ago and was thrilled to see you back. I loved hearing about you restoring your boat and giving her a new name. How on earth can that be construed as spammy?

A little late checking in, but as they say, 'better late than never." I like your spirit. I think most here at HP would agree with what you're saying. I for one, have always enjoyed reading your "spammy" articles, and thank you for them.

I write from the heart. If I can't do that - I don't write. I'm a big fan Rolly. Your hubs have always delivered a message we can all appreciate. Keep that talent bubbling my friend.

Who would complain about loving thoughts? If I can't write from my heart, my muse shuts down, and I have nothing. Keep writing Rolly. I like your heart, if that's spammy, so be it...

My son, the very successful leader of the band HA and I are walking back and forth with my use of the I and me. A balance must be made to keep it real and personal. When we paint the picture of laying half dead on the desert floor, when do we step up and say it is me who lies there?

I tend to like Rolly more than his writings. I like people more than parchment. We grow.
