Debts of Nature

Updated on March 15, 2011

Debts Of Nature.

I‘ve been forced to look
deep into the abyss,
several times in my life,
while blowing hope back into
the lungs of dying men.

Their fixed stares
and completely dilated pupils
mocked me, reflecting my face,
showing me my abyss to come.

One set of eyes re-ignited
with sparks of life,
but the other set,
became an open grave
that swallowed him.

I carry that guilt and his
twin portals to death,
coal black, they haunt me.

I am but one cellular malfunction,
one organ failure away from
staring up through my own abyss,
as I die a little bit daily.
